"How did he just vanish? I thought he was trapped," Sam exclaimed.
"After he left, I saw that the angel trap had been broken. Someone must have come into the bunker while we were gone and tried to release him. He probably stuck around just for the theatrics."
Sam nodded. There was a moment of silence before he spoke.
"I'm sorry."
Dean scoffed and turned away.
"I'm serious, Dean. I can't imagine how difficult this must be for you."
Dean was silent.
"Talk to me, Dean."
"I promised him everything would be the same. It was the only way he could agree; I promised him," Dean said sadly.
"Cas will be okay and you will be too."
Dean looked at him, "I can't live with him forgetting again, Sam."
"I know it will be hard, Dean, but you'll get through it, just like you did before. No matter how much Castiel forgets or loses, he will never lose you. He will always choose you to love."
"What do we even tell him?"
"We tell him that he's been in a type of accident and he's been unconscious for a long time. We tell him that the angels fell at the hands of Metatron, and you tell him that you love him."
"It's not that simple, Sam. What if he doesn't choose me again?"
"He will. When he forgot who you were, he chose you and you chose him back. He did it before and he'll do it again now. You guys are meant to be, I know it."
At that moment, Cas walked into the room. Dean spotted him immediately. He would recognize those eyes anywhere. Castiel stared back.
The world was still and it was only the two of them. That's when Dean knew that that choice to love, regardless of what happened in the future, would be enough. No matter what Castiel did, Dean could never help falling in love with him.
--------------
"Cas, Cas are you okay?!"
Cas woke up with a start seeing Dean in front of him shaking him awake.
Dean immediately took a few steps back.
"Sorry, you were having a nightmare. You were screaming, I just wanted to wake you up,"Dean said awkwardly looking down at his shoes.
"I don't remember what I was dreaming about..."
Silence.
"Do you want to take a walk outside?"
Castiel nodded.
---
"How are you feeling?" Dean asked after they had started walking away from the bunker and reached a small, rocky hill.
"For the millionth time, Dean, I am fine. Also, by saying 'for the millionth time' of course I'm being sarcastic and over exaggerating. Obviously, you have not asked me one million times-"
"I understand, Cas. I just wanted to make sure you weren't hurt or anything because- well I guess I wanted to tell you something. I- um-"
Cas looked up to the sky and started walking away from Dean. "Wow, that's amazing."
Dean sighed and and combed his fingers through his hair. "What is?"
"It's a meteor shower!"
Dean remembered Castiel talking about being so excited to see the meteor shower. He was building it up for weeks. He had gotten his telescope set up at the perfect angle and everything. Dean had big plans for tonight.
"Yeah it looks great," he said quietly, disinterested.
"Great?! You're joking, right? It's beautiful!"
Castiel started climbing up the hill to get a better view. He sat himself on a rock and stared at the sky.
"You know, in Heaven, I would look down at the sky whenever a meteor shower occurred and I would see the meteors falling to Earth from above, just imagining what it must look like from your point of view. I thought that maybe once I would see it, it wouldn't be as magical after all I hyped it up to be, but I was wrong. It did not disappointment, it's so beautiful."
Dean had sat down next to Cas on one of the rocks and looked at him, mesmerized in his adoration for Castiel.
"You're right it's gorgeous," Dean said, lips parting.
They were so close to each other now, just an inch apart. Cas moved his hand and it landed on top of Dean's.
"Oh sorry," Cas said silently blushing. He moved his hand away, but Dean caught it and placed it on his cheek.
"Don't be."
Cas sucked in a breath and Dean kissed him.
Their foreheads touched and Cas smiled.
"What?" Dean smiled back.
"What took you so long?"
