Play With Fire (Kim Minji - New Jeans)

(Timeskip, a few weeks later - Y/n POV)

I'm in the middle of a practice match, running around, jumping constantly as our team continues to practice for the upcoming tournament.

"Y/n!" I hear our setter call out to me to spike the ball.

I get ready for my approach before jumping up and spiking the ball over the net, scoring a point for my team.

"Good point Y/n!" I hear the coach compliment me from the side and I give them a thumbs up in acknowledgement.

We continue to play for the last set of the practice match.

"Y/n-ah," I hear Yujin call out to me from behind as we wait for the opposing team to serve.

I look at her with a 'what?' expression, "did you invite the girls here?" She asked.

"Who?"

"Over there, Minji and her friends are there, Yunjin and the others aswell." She says pointing over to the door of the sports hall.

I didn't tell Minji or her friends about my practice today. I don't remember telling Yunjin or any of the girls either.

"No, I didn't.." I shake my head.

"Then how did they know we're here?" She asked and I just shrugged my shoulders, turning my attention back to the court where I see a ball flying in my direction.

Luckily I was fast enough to react and recieve the ball into the air, but my coach noticed my lack of attention so I got scolded.

"Park! Eyes on the court!" He shouted and I nodded, focusing on the game in front of me as the setter tossed the ball up in the air towards me again for another spike.

It was slightly off but good enough for me to hit over the net and score another point for the team.

(Y/n POV)

The match had ended after a long rally at match point.

Both our team and the opposing team went to the benches to get some rest, in order to get ready for the next practice game.

I drank from my bottle, going towards the bench to sit down when I heard my name being called from somewhere.

"Y/n-ah!"

I turned to see Yunjin beckoning me over, she was standing with Somi and Giselle, along with Hanni and her friends nearby them.

I slowly made my way towards them, grabbing my towel from my bag as I passed by, before I stood in front of them.

I placed the towel around my neck, wiping the sweat that was on my face.

"What are you guys doing here?" I ask trying to slow down my breath.

"We were out and we got bored, we also figured since you haven't responded back to any of our calls you're probably in practice." Somi smiled.

"I see.." I nodded, placing my hands on my hips, still trying to catch my breath, "why are they here?" I look over to Hanni and her friends.

"They tagged along with us." Giselle tilted her head, "Also I thought you'd be happy, Hanni's here." She said.

"Y- yeah.." I nod, going over to Hanni who was talking to Haerin, to greet the girls.

Hanni turned around once I had tapped her shoulder, her eyes brightening once she saw me.

"Hey Y/n," she smiled before moving to kiss my lips, but I turn my head so she kisses my cheek instead, a pout appearing on her lips after my actions.

"What brings you guys here?" I glance at all five of them in front of me.

"We thought we'd drop by to see you play, since you know, there's not really much to do." Danielle smiled lightly.

"Oh.. Sure I guess," I nod, "it's just a practice match, I don't think it'll be too interesting.." I say slowly.

"Oh please Y/n." I hear Yunjin behind me, placing her arm around my shoulder, "you always play like it's your last match." She smiles, "you can't tell me it won't be interesting, plus it's always fun to watch my best friend play."

Yunjin continues to talk to the girls, Danielle and Hanni doing most of the talking.

I wasn't paying attention to what they were talking about, I only heard some things about what they were up to and whatever.

It was Minji, who for some reason, caught my attention.

Even though she was just standing there, as the others were talking, our eyes had met.

A silent greeting between us.

She didn't glare at me like she usually does. Or stick her tongue out at me like a child.

She just stared at me. Her brown eyes captivating me. There was an unspoken tension between us. I just couldn't put my finger on it.

Minji's gaze was enchanting, the way her head was slightly tilted as she stared back at me.

I couldn't help but get nervous under her intense gaze, it was alluring but at the same time somewhat intimidating.

I hesitantly turned away from her intense gaze, forcefully bringing myself back to reality and began to pay attention to what they were talking about.

"...and then after that it's just really awkward." Yunjin scoffs as Hanni and Danielle nod in agreement.

"Don't you think so Y/n?" Yunjin turns to look at me.

"oh- uh.. yeah..." I trail off as Somi hits my arm, taking me by surprise.

"Were you even paying attention?" Somi laughs and I shake my head in response, making the other girls laugh.

Noticing Minji smile lightly as I glance at her, her eyes curving into moons as she smiles. Her eye smile brightening her face, why is seeing her smile like that kinda cut--

What the hell am I thinking?

"Oh Y/n, what will we do with you." Yunjin shakes her head at me.

"Hey, don't blame me," I scold them, "I'm just really tired." Defending myself.

"Yeah, yeah whatever.." Yunjin rolled her eyes at me.

"Don't roll your eyes at me." I glared at Yunjin and she shot me a weird look.

"I'll roll my eyes as much as I want, Miss. Park. Y/n." She said in a teasing tone, making the other girls laugh at our banter.

"I swear to god you really know how to annoy me." I shake my head.

"Yeah!" She nods, "that's why you're my bestie~~" Yunjin joked.

"God okay." I laugh, I was about to speak again before I was cut off by my coach.

"Park! Get back on the court!!" He shouted.

"Yes coach!" I exclaim, leaving the girls as we prepare to play one last practice match.
