Despite it all

Chapter thirteen

I woke up from the cold breeze through the window and the little rays of sunshine that was seeking their way through the curtains. I searched for Adrian on my left and could see him still sleeping. I got up as quiet as I could and went downstairs to make some breakfast.

- Goodmorning sweetie, there is coffee and waffles if you'd like

- Goodmorning and thank you

I took two cups of coffee and some waffles for the both of us.

- Is he alright?

Emelie asked.

- Yeah I think so, he feel asleep directly when we came home yesterday

She nodded carefully.

- You know, Adrian can be hard sometimes, he has been going through a lot, but he is a really sweet and caring boy

I smiled at her.

- I know

I didn't have time to say anything else before I could hear footsteps coming from the stairs.

- You two talking about me?

- Don't think the world revolves around you honey

- Oh momma, we both know it does

They both laughed and he kissed me on my head

- Morning princess, he said

- Hey, I was suppose to give you breakfast in bed

- Well, you were too slow

He took his plate and coffee and we both went upstairs and laid down in his bed. He turned his TV on and we ate our breakfast.

As we were laying there for a few hours, me on his chest, listening to his heartbeat and slow breathing, his hand running through my hair and my arms wrapped around him. I felt something. Something I've never felt before. It was a tingling feeling and it went throughout my whole body and stopped in my stomach. It felt weird but good at the same time. I just wanted to stay here for the rest off my life.

- Adrian?

- Yeah

I sighed and turned my face towards him.

- What happened? I mean.. with your brother..?

I was still laying on his chest and could feel how his heart started beating faster. He looked at me and bite his lip before sitting up on the bed and sighting deeply.

- Leo was my little brother, we were more than siblings. He was practically my best friend and we did everything together. It was two years ago and I had just got my drivers license. We went out for a party and both of us had been drinking, it was so fucking stupid.

- Adrian..

- It was just a ten minute ride so both of us didn't thought about it being a big deal.

He stopped for a while before he continued.

- He wanted to show me a video someone sent him, so I just turned away for a second. When I woke up, I was in a hospital with a head concussion, broken ribs and a fractured arm.

I could feel how some tears were running down my cheek.

- Mom sat beside me, her eyes were red and her face was cold. I'll never forget the moment she told me my best friend didn't make it.
