An officer was leading Kai to his cell. The officer failed to tell him his cell mate was the most feared person in the complex.
Kai looked around as he continued to walk. He expected the stares. That was normal for any new person walking into prison. What he did not expect was for the prisoners to feel sorry for him. One across the hallway yelled "AYE! I GIVE HIM TWO MONTHS BEFORE HE'S DEAD!"
A larger man told him to say his goodbyes while the still could. The person in the cell after that, told him his cell mate was "fucking psycho" and that he "would pray for him tonight."
Kai thought it was just a scare tactic until he looked at the officer escorting him. His face expressed the same concerns without speaking it. The officer told him "good luck kid" before locking him up.
A voice, in the shadow of the bottom bunk, jokingly asked "you my new desire?" The guy came out then stood up. He looked at his cell mate up and down like a piece of meat. He seductively licked his lips. This one was so much more attractive than the last. "What's your story? Why are you here?"
Kai was confused. He expected the most feared guy to be some 6'6" real life hulk or something. Regardless, Kai was on edge. He stood against the bars to maintain his distance. "Why are you feared?"
"I asked you first."
"Congratulations."
The guy ran his fingers through his hair then smirked. "I'm Yeonjun Choi. Originally in for murder. People fear what they can't understand. Personally? I think I'm pretty harmless."
Kai scoffed. He rolled his eyes then looked towards the cell across from him. The two in that cell didn't look in his direction. It was almost like they were afraid to. He kept looking for someone to make eye contact with him. "Kai Kamal Huening. Also in for murder. Why are you feared here?"
Yeonjun stood across from him. He leaned his weight against the bars. His arms were crossed. His eyes were locked on Kai. So pretty. Maybe too pretty. "Look at me and I'll tell you." Those blue grays glanced in his direction. Yeonjun felt the world around him blur. His urges became overwhelming. He cracked his neck in his discomfort then settled himself. "I told you why. People don't understand me."
"Help me to then."
"I have a sort of... instinct that takes over when certain situations present itself."
"OH FOR FUCK'S SAKE!" Kai and Yeonjun looked over to the guy yelling across the hall. That guy shouted "HE'S A DEMON! HE DRINKS BLOOD. YOU'RE DEAD KID!"
Yeonjun turned to Kai to assess his reaction. He was shocked to not see one. If the taller was afraid, he hid it very well. His curiosity continued to grow. "What do you say to that?"
Kai continued to peer down the hall. "Myth. That's all it is. You're probably just crazy. Nothing more." He didn't let his true feelings show. All of his fears began to melt. He was in jail officially as a hit man. Unofficially, he was a vampire hunter. He was good too. Vampires were something he could handle should his life be in danger.
Yeonjun walked up to Kai with the intention of testing him. People were terrified of him. That he enjoyed greatly. Kai just didn't react to anything it seemed. He wanted to change that. He took his wrist then licked it. Kai gave him a weird look but still didn't move. He then bit into his wrist. The wound was shallow. Small drops of blood beaded out of it. Yeonjun began to lightly suck every drop.
Kai wanted to see how long this guy was going to keep this up. He knew how vampires looked when all self control was lost. That's not how Yeonjun looked. This was the first time his blood had ever been sucked out of him. It didn't feel bad. It actually felt kind of good. The real thing probably felt much worse.
Yeonjun swore he saw the faintest smile appear on Kai's face. That made him stop. It wasn't fun if his victim was enjoying it. He was starting to become angry. Yeonjun's mood always reflected on his face. He brushed his fingers through his hair after shaking his head twice. "You're different. I'll give you that."
"And?"
"And what?"
"I'm waiting for the threat."
"Well you're out of luck then."
Kai was the one smirking now. Vampires always had such egos. They think they're untouchable because of who they are. Little do they know it just makes them weak. One blow to their ego and they're thrown off off that grand pedestal they built. So easy to exploit. So easy to take advantage of. He climbed into the bottom bunk and made himself comfortable. "I can see why you like it down here. It's dark. Kind of stereotypical don't you think? I mean if you want to sell the vampire thing then at least be more creative."
Yeonjun stood to the side in pure disbelief. This guy was asking to die.
Kai noticed his wrist stopped bleeding. He looked towards the vampire with a sadistic grin. "How did I taste Yeonjun?"
"Do you actually want the answer or-"
"Bite me again. It felt so good. Sink your teeth into me baby. I'll repay the favor. It looks fun! People don't understand you right? Help me to! Show me how it's done again!" Kai took his shirt off.
Yeonjun remained motionless as the taller walked towards him. This was so new. He could feel Kai's body heat radiating on his cold skin when he stopped a mere inch away.
Kai couldn't help but think of how easy it would be to kill him right now. One slam into the metal sink was all it would take. The sink would break off from the vampire's impact. Shards would fly across the floor. Two stabs to his temples would be enough to make him unconscious. Beheading him would come after. If any trouble arose, all he would have to do is cut himself. Blood was the best bait in the world. Vampires were just so easy to kill. Especially ones that were trapped with him in a cell.
Yeonjun was dying to bite him. This weak little human wasn't a threat. He could drain him of life in five minutes flat. One bite to a major artery was all it would take. Maybe not even a bite. He could rip his heart out or stab through his skull with relative ease. His reflexes were twice as fast as a human. He could take damage like a brick wall. Yeonjun just didn't get it. Kai was either the most dangerous human he had ever met or the most suicidal.
They both wanted each other alive for now. Both were too intrigued by the other for this to end yet.
Yeonjun walked away to reclaim his bed. He threw Kai's shirt back at him then started to read a book. "You think this a joke. You don't understand that I'm letting you live. People fear me. You'll soon find out why."
Kai put his shirt back on then sat against the wall. He stared out into the hallway to see what everyone was doing. Some were working out. A lot were reading. Most were talking to each other like they had been friends forever. That wasn't going to happen with Yeonjun. Not when killing him would make him the leader of this place. It was too early for that. He had to observe the system first. That's what he did as he sat against the wall. Watched everyone's behaviors. Memorized who they were. Why they acted the way they did. Which ones were the easiest to manipulate.
The inmates didn't know it but their prison just got a lot more dangerous with Kai in it. Yeonjun wasn't actually reading. He was devising a way to make Kai fear him. Once the fear was instilled, he would finally kill him.
Their cell became a ticking time bomb and no one knew when it would finally blow.
