🐮Tyunning- By the Fireplace

The first blizzard of the year came yesterday. Taehyun guessed they would be snowed in for three days until he was able to drive down to the train station. Kai was busy giving the baby phoenix some medicine so he decided to do something nice for him. The blonde deserved something that resembled normal.

They got to know each other pretty well. Taehyun fell for him hard. He was almost sure Kai felt the same way but it was difficult to tell. He had never seem him sad or even angry. Kai just always seemed to be happy. If he was actually always that bright then that's amazing! Taehyun suspected that wasn't the case though. All of his suspicions about Kai turned out to be right. He doubted this one was wrong. Tonight, he wanted the blonde to open up with him. Hot chocolate by a fireplace seemed like a good way to do it.

Kai kissed the top of the phoenix's head when it finally ate the medicine. He held the syringe to it's little beak and slowly kept squeezing until the liquid was all gone. This job exceeded every expectation he ever had. It was challenging, at times dangerous, but incredibly rewarding. He had been trying to get that little bird to eat for the past half hour. His arm was killing him as he carefully carried the baby to it's cage. When the phoenix was settled in, he locked it then double checked it was actually locked. That was a mistake he wasn't going to make twice.

Once the milk was warm, Taehyun stirred the powder in. The fire was already going. Now he just needed some marshmallows. He dug through his cabinets until he found a small bag of them. The mini marshmallows got dumped into each cup until a thin layer floated on the surface. Everything was ready. He pushed the intercom button so he could talk to Kai downstairs. "Hey. Did she finally take her medicine?"

Kai finished cleaning up as he talked to Taehyun. "It took me sharing MY bottle of grape juice with her for her to finally eat it. I think she knows and was just trying to mess with me."

"They are very smart. Though, even a human baby can tell your love of grape juice Kai."

"It's good!"

"Come upstairs. I have a little surprise for you."

"Alright one second. Almost done cleaning up." Kai finished quickly. He walked upstairs then started to smell the fire. The soft crackle of the burning wood made his stress melt away. Then he saw Taehyun turn around with two large mugs in his hand. Kai smiled at the gesture. "Awe, what's this? You didn't have to do anything for me."

"I know. I wanted to." Taehyun handed him the mug. He watched Kai take a sip then started to grin when he saw how much the blonde loved it. He sat down on the blanket he prepared then started to sip his own. A little marshmallow got stuck to his lip. Kai laughed at him when he failed to slurp it off. Just as he was about to reach for it, he stopped. His eyes followed Kai's hand as it gently picked the marshmallow off of his lips. His heart started beating a mile a minute when the younger fed it to him. Nervously, he asked "Kai?"

The apprentice was oblivious to how red his boss's cheeks were as he continued to sip his cocoa. "Yeah?"

"Have you ever felt, I don't know, romantically about anyone?"

"I love everyone who is kind to me. Most people seem to be that way. You're the nicest besides my parents."

"Do you see me like how you see your parents?"

Kai sat his mug across from him then turned to face Taehyun. "No? That would be kind of weird. Why?"

"I was just wondering if you've ever dated before. Or wanted to for that matter."

Kai leaned against the couch. His legs sprawled under the blanket as he wrapped himself in it. "I've thought about it. Never found anyone who had mutual interest in me though."
