KateLynn's POV:
I open the door and all of the lights are out. I flick the switch and almost pass out... Inside is all of my friends. Maggie, Brandon, Ali, Alyssa, Kristin, Abby, Nicole, Lacy, James, Eddie, Dean, and a bunch of other people jump out and yell "Surprise!" I start to cry as Flynn steps forward and hugs me with a giant smile on his face. Everyone lines up to hug me with big smiles on their faces. "Hey girlie! I have one more surprise for you!" yells out Maggie. I glance over at Flynn and he shrugs his shoulders, a confused frown on his face.
The music that had been blasting suddenly stops. The crowd begins to part and there's one person left in the middle. I gasp and fresh tears sting my eyes. Standing before me is Zayn Warren. I run up to him and he hugs me tightly, whispering "I'm here, baby." over and over again. I pull back from him and he takes my hand. He pulls me towards the back door and we walk out to the trampoline. "Since this place holds bad memories, I think we should change that." he says with a smirk. He pulls me up with him and we sit down.
"What are you doing here?" I ask him as I cling to his hand for dear life. He smiles at me and I notice for the first time that he is crying. "Zayn, what's wrong?" I asked, suddenly worried. He shakes his head and whispers "Nothing, KateLynn." I smile and ask again, "What are you doing here?" Zayn takes a deep breath and slowly lets it out. He looks me in the eyes like he did when he told me he was leaving. "KateLynn, I'm coming back. I'm moving back in with my aunt, I'm going to graduate here, with you." He said in a rush. I blinked, trying to make sense of what I had heard.
Zayn was coming back, for good. He would graduate at Rydell High, with me. My heart pounded in my chest, my hands suddenly started to sweat, tears stung my eyes. I couldn't believe it; He was coming back. I then noticed Zayn was staring at me with hope in his eyes. Hope for what? He was hoping I would take him back. He still loved me, still wanted me. I looked him right in the eyes and nodded my head with a gigantic smile on my face. Zayn squeezed me into a body-numbing hug and I squealed in delight. Best. Birthday. Party. Ever.
Flynn's POV:
Here I am at my girlfriends surprise party for her eighteenth birthday and she is nowhere to be found. I toss back the last of my sixth beer and reach for another one. My hand stops in mid air before falling limp at my side. Everyone around me is making out. I sneer and pull myself up off the couch and start walking towards what I hope is the bathroom.
Stupid KateLynn. Stupid Maggie. Stupid Zayn. He isn't supposed to be here. He left KateLynn, just left without a second glance. She was broken when he moved away. I was there for her. Me, not some stupid football player. I'm in a band, a band which KateLynn adores! She was supposed to be with me tonight, not her damn ex! He shouldn't even be here! He's supposed to be off in fucking Philadelphia! I thought he was gone for good, never to return. Guess I was wrong.
I finally make it to the door of the bathroom. I pull it open and walk on in. I notice I'm not in the bathroom at all, but rather instead outside. I stumble across the stone pathway, making my way to my truck. I know I shouldn't have drank those beers, but I was angry. Angry that KateLynn had accepted Zayn right back into her life, no questions asked; angry that she hadn't even spared me a backwards glance. I finally stop walking, realizing through the fog in my mind that I'm crying. I wipe away the tears forcefully, not wanting to cry over her. Too proud to cry over her. That's when I see it.
They're sitting on a trampoline, smiling, hugging. She just squealed and now they're laughing together. More tears fall from my eyes as I watch them. I watch her take his hand and kiss his cheek. I watch him bring her hand up to his lips. I watch as they unconsciously lean into each other. The next thing I see is the final stab to my dying heart. KateLynn reaches up and cups Zayn's face. He slowly brings his lips onto hers, making her smile. I can't take it anymore, I cry out. I scream out in complete agony, not caring who hears me or what the hell they think. They break away from each other, whipping their heads in my direction. I see her face change from happy to scared to shameful. I glare at Zayn as he looks back and forth between KateLynn and I. Something clicks in his brain as he finally puts it together. I'm already walking towards them.
KateLynn is off the trampoline in seconds, running towards me. She's yelling something at me, but all I catch is my name, I'm too busy focusing on killing that damn bastard. "You think you can just show up here and start making out with my girl?" I yell in Zayn's face. "Whoa, whoa, whoa! Your girl? When the hell did that happen?" he says back, honestly confused. I can feel KateLynn pulling at my arm, trying to get me to back down, but I ignore her as I laugh in Zayn's face. Zayn looks over my shoulder at KateLynn with a pained expression on his face. He then turns back to me. "You were a rebound, dickhead." he says to me, puffing up his chest. I don't even think, I just act. My arm swings in the air and hits the target. Zayn stumbles back holding his cheek. I shake out my fist and look back at him. I spit in his face and turn to walk away. KateLynn had let go when she saw me swinging. She was now standing between Zayn and I.
I looked at her and raised my eyebrows. She looked at Zayn and I turned away. I walked up the path and around to the front of the house. I climbed into my truck and drove away.
