The grand chamber within the castle was adorned with tapestries depicting the glorious victories of Baldur's ancestors against the fae.

The room echoed with the steady footsteps of armoured guards while Baldur stood by the large table where numerous maps and scrolls were spread out. I would have gladly bent him over and given him a good pounding if I knew his mind was not so preoccupied.

It was clear that he was deep in thought, contemplating the letter that had arrived the previous day.

The missive, sealed with the unmistakable emblem of the old fae realm, bore the weight of potential change. King Alaric, the enigmatic ruler of the fae, had expressed his desire to send emissaries to discuss the possibility of peace.

Wanting to give Baldur some time to himself and not interrupt him, I stood in the shadows. Though hidden from view, my watchful eyes remained fixed while I silently observed Baldur read the letter again, his fingers tracing the elegant curves of the script.

The timing of the sudden offer of peace left me with a sense of unease.

Something was off, I thought.

As the afternoon light filtered through the chamber's high windows, casting dappled patterns on the stone floor, a knock on the heavy wooden door broke Baldur's reverie. He looked up to see one of his advisors, Grommash, entering with a bow.

"Your Majesty," Grommash began, "word has spread throughout the Orc bands about Alaric's letter. The chieftains and the warriors await your decision."

Baldur sighed, folding the letter and placing it carefully on the table. "The fae have been our adversaries for generations," he mused. "And now, with the sudden emergence of their magic, King Alaric extends an olive branch. It cannot be a simple gesture of goodwill."

Grommash nodded, his rugged features etched with concern. "Indeed, the fae are known for their cunning and deceitful ways. This sudden willingness for peace must surely hide an ulterior motive."

I continued to lean against the pillar, looking on while Baldur and Grommash conversed.

Baldur's imposing presence remained unyielding; his broad shoulders squared with an unwavering resolve that resonated throughout the room. The flickering torchlight gently caressed his chiselled features, bestowing upon them a captivating allure that accentuated his rugged yet undeniably handsome face.

Grommash, with his weather-beaten countenance and eyes that held a lifetime of experience, stood at Baldur's side. His voice, a low rumble in the silent chamber, carried a mixture of caution and loyalty. His furrowed brow mirrored that of the Orc King, a reflection of the shared burdens they carried.

They spoke in hushed tones, their words expressing strategy and worry. I could almost feel the weight of their thoughts, the unspoken concerns that hung in the air like a gathering storm.

Baldur's fingers tapped rhythmically against the table's edge, a subconscious display of his restless contemplation. His gaze alternated between the maps spread out before him, each representing a different facet of our kingdom's strength, and the letter from the Fae King Alaric, a symbol of both hope and uncertainty.

"Is everything ready for their arrival?" Baldur suddenly asked, his eyes flaring with a mixture of determination and caution.

Grommash nodded, "Yes, everything was done as you commanded."

"Good, we'll receive the fae emissaries and listen to what they have to say. But we'll also be vigilant and watch for any signs of treachery."

With a bow, Grommash left.
