Blinking my eyes open, I adjusted my vision to the light filtering into the room and let out a sleepy yawn. My gaze landed on the unfamiliar ceiling above me, and I frowned in confusion. It definitely wasn't the ceiling of my room.
My head was moving up and down gently on a surface that was both soft and firm.
Does my pillow suddenly have the strange ability to move? I wondered. But pillows aren't hard... unless the cotton inside has somehow turned into stone.
Alarmed, I instantly lifted my head from the warm surface, only to realize I couldn't move very far. The events of last night came rushing back to me, reminding me exactly where I was—and who I was with.
Viktor's strong arms were wrapped securely around me as he held me against his chest, sleeping peacefully with soft, even breaths.
He looked so soft, less scary and more cute while asleep. Resting my chin on my folded arms atop his chest, I quietly admired him.
I never imagined all those events would eventually lead to this. Heck, I never even imagined that one day I'd be lying in the arms of my unofficial enemy. I remembered the past few months so clearly—the constant bickering, the sarcastic remarks, the endless teasing. Our conversations had been nothing more than playful arguments and witty comebacks.
I didn't know how these feelings had developed. I couldn't call it love yet, but whatever it was... it was getting dangerously close. Still, however it happened, I was glad we had sorted everything out last night. I couldn't bear being on the receiving end of his coldness, especially now that I had finally decided to stop letting my insecurities control my heart.
I continued watching him sleep, admiring the way his long eyelashes rested against his cheekbones, the light stubble that made him look even more masculine, the striking blue eyes hidden beneath his closed lids, and those plump lips that suddenly made me want to kiss them all over again.
You're having dirty thoughts now... Control yourself, bitch.
Ignoring my traitorous inner voice, I leaned down and placed a gentle peck against his lips. Just as I was about to pull away, a large hand slid to the back of my head, stopping me.
Instead, Viktor deepened the kiss.
A smile tugged at my lips as he tried to deepen it further, but I immediately pulled back.
He whined at that. Like... actually whined.
"Love... why did you pull away?" he complained in his deep, morning-groggy voice.
A few strands of hair had fallen over his forehead, and sleep still lingered in his beautiful blue eyes.
"Morning breath," I drawled teasingly.
"I don't care!" he pouted.
I stared at him in complete disbelief.
"Viktor... did you just pout?" I asked, utterly amazed.
Instead of answering, he simply pulled me back against his chest, making my head rest comfortably over his heart once again as he buried his face against my shoulder.
I couldn't help but study his sleepy face once more. The messy bed hair somehow made him look even more ethereal.
How did I manage to bag myself such a beautiful man?
As my eyes wandered over his features again, they eventually stopped at his cheek. Instantly, memories of last night resurfaced.
My fingers gently brushed over the faint mark still visible there. Viktor immediately stopped snuggling and looked down at me.
