"Mom, I have to tell you something,"

Yes. Let her live.

"No, son. You don't," she says, taking his hands in hers, "You're here to repair your future, not mine,"

But I'm the one who broke it.

"This is about your future,"

There's no changing her mind.

No way to prevent my careless mistakes.

"It's none of my business," Mother says firmly, a small shake of her head.

You might want to take the stairs to the left.

Why did I say that? For my ego? A minuscule victory against Thor?

"I am Loki of Jotunheim," I tell Malekith, throwing Jane to the ground.

It's a lie, a lie to trick the dark elves.

But is it?

I mean, what's left for me on Asgard anyways? I murdered the only person who truly loved me.

Then Raccoon bursts into the room, looking back and forth between Thor and Mother, who simply waves, eyes glittering with amusement and joy.

"Hi, uh, you must be Mom," He guesses. Then promptly shows his hand, holding the Aether in a glass tube, "I got the thing. Come on, we gotta move,"

No no no no no, we can't leave yet.

"Oh, I wish we had more time," Thor mutters, turning back to Mother.

There's never enough time.

Never enough time with the people I love before I push them away.

"No, this was a gift,"

A gift watching Thor have the closure I will never get.

"Now you go and be the man you're mean't to be,"

So many words left unsaid.

"I love you, Mom,"

The four words she never knew.

"I love you,"

The words she told me but I refused to accept.

They wrap each other tightly in a hug before she mutters something about salads.

I watch as Raccoon begins the countdown, watching in despair as Frigga keeps her eyes glued to the perfect child.

My inner child squirms beneath me, a grief so strong it almost knocks me over.

An idea pops into my mind.

A flash of green.

An aching feeling in my abdomen.

Mother.

Thor stops, holding his hand out. They pause for a moment.

Can't you notice me?

Calling out to you?

Rocket nods.

3

No.

2

I need you.

1

A flash of green, my hands engulfed in magic.

Frigga looks over, shocked, her eyes widening.

"Lo-"

Then we vanish, trapped in-between timelines once again.

I leave knowing I caused her death hours later.

Maybe in some universe, there's a version of us somewhere that survived.

If I hadn't been the one holding the dagger...
