⇲ AS I got ready to meet up with my best friend, Alec , I took time to analyze myself in the mirror.
I found myself beautiful most times , it took me to time to adjust to myself. I have a condition called vitiligo and throughout my school years I found myself getting insecure because of bullies but overtime I grew to love it because it makes me different from everyone else.
I placed my straightener down and unplugged it before my phone vibrated. I picked it up to see that Alec texted me letting me know he was here.
I liked his message before grabbing some essentials for my purse and walking out the door. As soon as I stepped foot in the car, he pounced on me bringing me into his embrace. "Zariah! Hey!" I laughed, rubbing his back.
He acts as if he hasn't seen me for days, I mean he hasn't, he's been spending the night at his beautiful girlfriend's house, Amber. They've been dating for so many years, we call each other out in laws. Even though Alec and I aren't related by blood, we know we are brother and sister.
"Hi Mr. I smoked without my best friend." He rolled his eyes, opening the car door. We both got in. "So," He leaned back and buckled his seatbelt, me doing the same. "Where are we headed?" he continued , starting the car again.
I shrugged. "Let's go to Frank's." I said, smiling. Frank's is a local diner in our town, I haven't been in a while but I figured it's the best place to go for such an occasion.
What occasion? I'm going back home for a while and I have to break the news to him, I have a feeling he'll take it well but just in case he doesn't we'll be at the 1st place we ever went together.
Maybe that'll distract him. "Franks? We haven't been there in a while huh?" "Mhm, you've been to busy hanging out with my sister in law." I responded putting on a smile.
After a long ride of doing karaoke, we arrived at Franks and now we're seated. "No! You fuckin' idiot!" Alec yelled at the football playing on the TV behind me.
We've always sat in this exact spot for this reason. The waiter brought us the food we ordered. "Thanks." He nodded and walked away.
I took a bite into my hotdog and Alec snickered , taking one of my fries. I sighed. "This is the only time I'm gonna allow it only because I have something really important to say and I don't know how you'll take it."
He nodded, eyes focused back on the TV. "Im going back home for thanksgiving." I asked , leaning back in booth.
We stared at each other for a few minutes and he narrowed his eyes at me. "I'm confused," He said and I furrowed my brows.
"About?"
"Why would I not be alright with you going back home and stay there...?" I shrugged, not really having an answer. "So the fiancé, her name is Kailani right?" Then we went to talk about her.
