"So what? You guys just let her go?" Diego asks, as Lila changes out the gauze on his hip area.
"Well, we tried to stop her." I reply, sitting in a chair across from him.
"But she had a lot to process." Five adds and sighs, as he paces back and forth behind Diego. "She'll come around. I know she will."
"What about the guys that went after her?" He further questions.
"The Swedes?" Five says questionably, as to ask if that's who he was talking about.
"Yeah." He replies. "I mean, how do you know they won't go after her again?"
I shake my head and pick up a cup that Elliott just set on the coffee table. "We don't know. In fact, they're after Five and I too."
"Hmm..." Lila hums thoughtfully. "Any idea who sent them?"
"Oh. I have my suspicions." Five replies, giving Lila a look. "But right now, our top priority is finding Dad and getting answers because everything else depends on it." He sits in the chair beside me.
"Which, for the record, I already found him." Diego starts.
I roll my eyes. "Yeah and instead of talking to him like a normal person, you started a fight with him. Incredibly smart move, douchebag."
He gives me a blank look. "He stabbed me."
"I'm surprised he's waited this long, Diego." Five retorts. "We've all had the urge."
Lila starts cackling, while Elliott chuckles. I bite back a laugh at the very true statement.
"Good one." Lila compliments and holds her hand out for a high-five. "High-five?"
I raise an eyebrow suspiciously. 'How does she know what a high-five is? They weren't even called "high-fives" until '77. I wouldn't know this if Dad didn't make us read every book that was ever brought into the Academy. Anyways, that's suspicious...'
Five ignores her high-five. "Good thing we know where Dad's going to be tonight." He pulls the invitation out of his pocket and reaches it over to Diego, who snatches it from his hand.
"Where'd you find this?" He asks, as him and Lila start reading it over.
"We found it at his office. You know, because we were actually getting something done while you were getting yourself stabbed." I snarkily reply.
He glances up at me and chuckles sarcastically, then reads the invitation out loud. "'Hoyt Hillenkoetter and the Consulate General of Mexico in Dallas cordially invite you to a gala'."
"Whoa! Wait." Elliott cuts in. "Hoyt Hillenkoetter?"
I raise an eyebrow at him, while Five asks. "Seriously? Do you know him?"
"We should go." Lila quietly suggests to Diego. "It says there's going to be a seafood tower."
I roll my eyes and proceed to listen to Elliott. "No. Hillenkoetter is...he's one of the Majestic Twelve."
"What's the Majestic Twelve?" Diego asks.
"It's a...a secret committee." Elliott answers. "Uh, scientists, military, uh, deep state. No one knows what they really do."
"Wait. So, they're government?" Diego grunts, trying to sit up.
"Shadow government." Elliott corrects. "Yeah. Kennedy was the first president to try to push 'em into the light, but these guys are not to be trifled with."
He starts digging through a random pile of stuff. "Oh. Uh, here it is." He brings a photo over to us and lays it on the coffee table and points at a guy. "That's Hoyt right there."
