(Kremlin POV)
Rain. I always missed the rain when it left. It was like a blanket of comfort for me. Something I didn’t have before. Something that I had always wanted.
The clouds blotted out the sun, giving the port a darkened appearance. The little light that did get in illuminated the dreary weather. I had gotten up late and had to dress in my better uniform to cover up how bad I had overslept. Normally I wouldn’t sleep as long, but I had been drinking late into the night with an old friend.
I ran into Petropavlovsk on my way to the office. Her vodka flew out of her hand into the water, making a comically large splash. I tried to kept running, but she grabbed my collar.
“Kremlin…”
I could feel the outright rage slowly building in her voice. I started to shake and kept my mouth shut. She moved in front of me, her white fur coat shining in the darkness. She turned to face me, her chest jiggling slightly under the black turtleneck she wore. I had fallen deeply in love with her, even if I would never admit it to anyone else.
“I can see that gaze of yours.” I froze and looked into her eyes, seeing her very noticeable annoyance.
“So-sorry…”
She grabbed my collar and pulled me down to eye level. I felt my body just give up and let her. I was sure she wanted to punch me, so I closed my eyes and waited.
“You don’t need to stare. It is our anniversary after all.”
“Wha-”
She pulled me down and bopped my forehead, then kissed it. I had entirely forgotten that it was our 23rd anniversary of being married.
“Idiot.”
“Hehe……that’s me.”
She smiled slightly and walked towards her docked ship. I left for the command building, hoping I wouldn’t be late. I passed by my brother’s ship. He had only arrived this morning alongside Novosibirsk and Delny. The trio were some of the finest the motherland had to offer. I was thankful they were with me.
I entered the building to find multiple admirals and generals standing around and talking. All were smiling and chatting about recent developments in the cold war against the West and our active campaign against the sirens. It had been ages since I saw both sides of our forces chatting like they were good friends. It was a welcome change.
“There’s our shining star himself! SN Kremlin, commander of the entire kansen fleet!” One of the admirals proclaimed as I entered. The rest of the crowd turned and smiled at me, some praising me. I’d grown used to the constant praise I was given whenever I made a public appearance. This was to raise morale of course.
“Admiral Tarasov.” I nodded to the admiral who by now had reached his early 50s. He was slightly on the thinner side, his waist being a bit tighter than most. His short, brown beard had been neatly trimmed to a perfect shaping. His short brown hair was swept to the right, slightly shining in the lights of the room. His sharp blue eyes cut through the crowd. His face was normally cold and stoic, but he had a large grin to him today. I walked over to him and shook his hand, cracking a small smile of my own.
“How have you been my friend?”
“I’ve been well. Patrols and paperwork have been light recently.”
“Good, good. Come, drink with us. Today is a day to celebrate.”
“I’m sorry admiral, but I cannot drink.”
