They had five more school days until Christmas break. As of lately, Heather’s classes had been flying by. Fortunately, Jada didn't show up for chemistry last week. She hoped this week would be no different. She hated the way Jada made her feel. But if Jada wasn’t around, it was easy for her to bury those feelings. At least momentarily. She walked into chemistry, the desks had been moved around. There were now two desks beside each other and they all had nametags on them.

“Please be beside Mia.” Heather whispered.

She sat down at her assigned desk, taking a deep breath as she looked over at the nametag. Jada’s name was written beside her. Of course it had to be her. Fortunately, Mia was at the desk to her right.

“Who are you sitting by Heather?” She asked.
“Jada.” She mumbled.
“Aw. I got sat by some guy named Ryder.”
“Ryder Williams?” She asked.
“Yeah. Do you know him?” Mia replied.
“He’s on the football team. He’s super popular.”
“Is he mean?”
“I’ve never talked to him but if he’s anything like his girlfriend then no.” Heather said.
“Okay.” She mumbled, watching the door anxiously.

Jada walked in. She checked all of the desks, avoiding Heather and Mia’s. She made it to the last desk, shifting her shoulders uncomfortably as she looked at the other two. She bit the inside of her cheek, sitting down beside Heather. They were asked to get into their pairs and review all of the notes they got.

“You will have another test this Friday. I’m giving you this week to review. If you fail, that’s not my problem.” She said.
Heather pulled out her notebook, flipping to their most recent notes.
“You’ve written everything that we’ve learned since Thanksgiving break.”
“And how would you know that? You’ve shown up to maybe 5 or 6 classes since.”
“Why are you keeping track of that?”
“I’m not.” She blurted.
“It was just a random number.”
“Sure.” Jada replied, rolling her eyes.

Heather hid her face with her hand, blocking the bright pink that spread across her face.
