Another short chapter for many reasons. But mainly because things are almost over and it's intense. Wouldn't want to overwhelm you...too much.
6 months can feel like 6 hours sometimes, but a lot can happen. Even if you don't realize how drastic your life has changed.
"No, I definitely have to go now~" Max slurred her words as she tried to move past Troy.
"Why don't you just stay the night?"
"Because I have to go." Max groaned.
"You're such a female player, I like it." Troy grinned. "You've got what you want, now you want to leave me."
"I like using you." Max said cooly. "Now move aside or I'll find a new toy." She felt no pleasure in speaking that way, but Troy liked it. So, sometimes she had to speak that way to get what she wanted.
Troy winked at Max and finally let her leave the house. He figured she'd be back next weekend, when his parents were away. He let her stumble out of his house drunk, and went to bed. He didn't stay up to make sure she got home safe.
-
Max showed up on her front porch a couple hours after leaving Troy's. The door was locked and she was sure Billy was locking the door out of spite because he knew she wasn't home. She called Billy over and over with no response. "Fuck you, fuck you." Max mumbled as she scrolled through her contacts. A name was missing and it made her feel like she was being swallowed by a void. She settled on Abi's number and called her.
"What the hell?" Abi asked immediately because it was 3:00 AM and she had just gotten to sleep.
"Abi...can you pick me up?"
"Where are you?"
"Home, the door is...it's locked." Max sighed heavily.
"Your drunk again, aren't you?"
"Yup...and are you my fucking mother?"
"Jesus Christ, Max...okay, I'm coming. Stay on the porch." Abi hung up and crawled out of bed. Abi liked Max, she thought Max was a fairly fun girl with too many issues to be ironed out. But since Max and Lukas split, Abi had been running around in circles. Trying to keep Max on track. Sometimes it was so bad that she wanted to praise Lukas for breaking off the relationship.
Abi arrived outside Max's place and quickly dimmed her lights. She didn't want anyone to come out and cause a scene. Once Max was in her car, Abi reached over and slapped her arm.
"Ow?!"
"Where were you?" Abi hissed and pulled out of the driveway.
"Troy's."
"I told you not to– What's the point..."
"You're not my mom or my girlfriend, so why the fuck do you care?"
"Because Troy isn't good for you, okay?"
"Oh but you can fuck him?"
"Hey!" Abi gripped the steering wheel. "I was stupid at one time, but I do not mess around with losers like Troy anymore. And it's not even the sex I care about. Troy makes you reckless and spiteful. Have you been popping pills again tonight?"
"No pills, just shut up." Max rested her head on the door.
"Max...You dropped out of school and spend your nights increasing your chances of getting STIs. I don't need to be your mother to be concerned about you."
"Fuck off."
"Jesus, how did Lukas ever manage you?" Abi quickly regretted saying that.
"Pull over." Max demanded.
"I'm sorry –"
"Pull over!"
"I'm not letting you out, Max!"
"Pull this fucking car over! I will fucking kill you!" Max started angry crying.
Abi slowed down because the car had filled up with a suffocating sense of danger. "Max, I didn't mean it...calm down."
"Stop the car." Max breathed in slowly. She did not want to lash out, but she was losing control over the damage done to her brain.
"Fuck it..." Abi pulled over and stopped the car. "I can't do this anymore Max, you've lost your damn mind. A boy isn't worth all this insanity."
"S'not about the boy." Max pushed open the door and got out. "It's about my future husband, and our beautiful baby that I killed." Max slammed the door and started walking.
