Violet was on her porch when she heard sounds of faint meowing. A confused look grew on her face, trying to figure out if she was crazy or not. She walked around her yard and kept hearing the soft meow until she finally found it. Between two bushes next to her house, there was a kitten. A very small kitten. She smiled at its cuteness and held her hand out, and the cat rubbed its head against her hand, and she lightly petted it on the head and walked away. She thought it was a very adorable kitten, and she had a hard time walking away from it, but it had seemed to feel the same, because it followed her back to her porch. Her nurturing side was coming out, and she couldn't say no to the cat, so she didn't ignore it and pet it some more, until it laid by her side and fell asleep. She eventually went inside and the kitten scurried off.

The next day, it was the same story. She found the same little kitten meowing, but this time it was at her porch, wanting attention. "Oh, poor thing." She thought. It must've gotten abandoned by its mother, and now it wants that affection from a mother that all the other cats in the litter got. She scooped it up and held it in her arms and it purred softly. Violet knew she couldn't keep the cat, because she wouldn't be home enough to take care of it, and it was far too expensive. She was already on a tight budget with just her life necessities, let alone with an animal in her house that she needed to get food for too.

Over the next few days, she and Atticus would talk, deciding that they would spend some time at Violet's house so it was just the two of them. Another highlight of those days was the reappearing cat situation. She didn't know if it was male or female, but she decided to assume it was male and name him "Ashey" due to his gray coat. She had no idea where he went at night, but during the day, he was always at her house, and when he was at her house, she noticed that a softer, more nurturing side of her always came out. That side of her was more empathetic and caring compared to her normally, and that side of her naturally seemed to have a softer touch and voice. Suddenly, someone came into her head; her ex-boyfriend. He never had that caring side she had. He was always loud and aggressive, which wasn't always bad, but he could never seem to be quieter and softer like she could, and she wondered if it was just him, or if other men also didn't have a softer, more caring side that she had.

The next day, Violet and Atticus walked to her house just to see where things went. Before they went in, she introduced Atticus to Ashey. "Here he is." Said Violet, and Ashey meowed softly, coming out between the bushes. Atticus smiled. "Aww," He said in a husky, rumbly voice, "He's so small." He finished, holding out his hand for the cat to sniff. Ashey seemed a lot more timid around Atticus than Violet, but that was because Atticus was a lot larger of a person than Violet was, even his fingers were much thicker, and his touch wasn't as soft as hers; they both found that out when Ashey jerked his head back the first time he tried to pet him.

After a few seconds though, Ashey let his fingers stroke his head, and he started to softly purr as he started to rub up against Atticus and Violet. "Aww, he likes you." Violet said with a smile. Atticus let out a soft chuckle, and began to step away, and Violet did the same, letting Ashey follow them to her porch. "You're not going to keep him?" Atticus asked. "No, I can't. I don't have the time to care for him." She responded. They sat down on Violet's porch step, wondering how Ashey became so comfortable around Atticus so quickly. He quickly climbed into his lap and let Atticus hold him.

"Would you keep him?" Violet asked out of curiosity. Atticus thought about it. "It wouldn't be impossible, either me or Cal's always home... but I'm not sure if I want to take that responsibility." He said. Violet nodded in response. As she looked at Ashey in Atticus' arms, she suddenly remembered the time she saw Scout in Atticus' arms on their porch swing, and realized that this answered her question; yes, some men do have that caring, nurturing side to them, Atticus was one of them, and that only made her want him more.
