There were two things Jeno could conclude from all the friends that he's lost over the years.
1. Romantic relationships probably last longer than platonic ones. 2. There is something wrong with him.
Nearly 22 years of his life and Jeno couldn't get anyone to stay by his side. He couldn't keep a friendship with anyone going and Jeno didn't understand why.
He's gotten used to it. He's gotten used to people coming and going, leaving him when he's no longer convenient for them. He doesn't think it's affected him too much. He never cries and he's never surprised.
When he met Minjun, he thought things would change. That a relationship would mean she wouldn't leave. And Minjun's a nice friend too. He liked her. He likes her. Even before they started dating, Jeno couldn't help the flutter of his heart and the feelings he had for her.
When Jeno asked Minjun to be his girlfriend, he realised that now he had someone greater to lose. Minjun isn't just a friend now, she isn't just someone he cares for. Minjun was someone Jeno had feelings for. And now the pain of losing her would be so much greater.
He tried not to let it affect him. Minjun promised she wouldn't leave.
But sometimes he couldn't help but fear. He couldn't help but be afraid that she would leave.
Jeno lies in his bed, scrolling lazily through Instagram. The sky is dark outside and Jeno is exhausted from the long day of classes. He managed to talk to Minjun earlier after dinner but that was before she left to do assignments.
Then Jeno sees it.
He stares at the conversation happening in front of his eyes and reads it over and over again.
He blinks.
Jeno can't breathe.
He can't breathe. Every inhale feels suffocating and every exhale feels like fire on his chest. His heart burns and it only hurts the longer he stares at his phone.
