Your body did not feel like it belonged to you anymore. Nothing was real, everything so light yet it pulled you down.

Down.

Towards the hard, cold ground on which cars and garbage battled for the last bit of space.

In this few seconds you heart did not beat. Your blood didn't flow.

All you managed to do was stare upwards to this strange man, dressed in black, who kept arguing with this woman. What an unlikely pair they were.

Black and blue.

Anger and passion.

He gifted her with a smirk, broad and cocky. Then he laughed. It made him appear warm, soft, like someone who was welcomed by everyone.

She replied with clenched teeth and a raised middle finger. She was like a cat that answered to a dogs attempt to make friends.

No, they weren't similar at all. And yet, somehow, both managed to capture your flying vehicle. Arasaka property.

Even Militech did not dare do such a thing. An attack like this could have caused a corporation war.

But what did simple street merchants had to worry about?

They had nothing to loose but everything to win. Money. So much money for them, more than they could even dream of. So little that you wouldn't even look at the amount twice before throwing it out the window.

How different they were from you.

So many thought crossed your mind, even more minutes passed, hours. In reality it was nothing but a split second but fear made you think it was an eternity.

You were so entangled in your worries that you failed to notice how deep you had fallen. The sound of a busy street reached your ears. Car engines made your breath hitch and your limbs go stiff.

So this is how it would end. On a day that was neither sunny nor made dramatic by rain, in a city you had never wanted to set foot in. Far away from home. There you would die. In a place without meaning or comfort.

Still your eyes were glued to the two shapes. And still they were involved in their heated conversation.

How had they found you?

Why had they found you?

For what reason exactly had you become their target?

Your eyes closed, you blinked and when they opened again, the two of them were still standing there high above.

A patch of darkness returned as you blinked again. And at that very moment, your back hit something hard.

It was not a soft impact, but nowhere near as bad as it would have been on rough asphalt. Something had caught you out of the air.

All the oxygen was squeezed out of your lungs. You gasped desperately, tears blurring your vision as you tried desperately not to suffocate. Coughing, you crumbled on the hard surface beneath you, grabbing your neck and driving your nails into the irritated flesh.

It felt as if your spine had shattered into a thousand pieces.

Everything drowned in pain while all your other senses screamed at the same time and downed out the world around.

Your legs were unable to find footing and lift you up as your brain commanded them to run away in a last attempt to regain control of this situation.

It didn't need a lot of moving to know that you had suffered not just a bunch of bruises but also a few fractures, a cracked rip perhaps and a shattered ankle. However, you were unable to tell which one of the two it was.

Everything was spinning before your eyes while your head started to feel dizzy. The lack of air started to make itself noticed. Your lungs burned and your mind went ballistic.

How desperate you felt in this moment. Desperate to get just one ounce of fresh air. Desperate to survive.

You did not want to die. But in this very moment it felt like there was no other option. You were so close to the edge.

The ground started to shave and two more impacts chased waves of pain through your numb limbs.

"God fucking dammit, Jackie!", the voice of the woman named V hissed, her hands roaming your face that was wet with sweat already. "You almost offed the goods!"

What a strange name that was. V, a single letter with so little meaning. As if it were nothing to her. As if she hadn't earned a real name for herself yet.

Her hands wandered down your body, over your neck and to the neckline of your kimono to loosen the fabric. And indeed, it took enough pressure off your chest to be able to gasp for a small, flat breath.

But it did not make the pain go away. It was so inhumane it made tears gush down your cheeks. You hadn't cried in ages, sorrow wasn't a usual emotion you felt. But this kind of feeling that held your body hostage was so unbearable that you couldn't help.

Your eyes started to water on their own. You would have rather died by the impact than be unable to resist as she kept on pushing down on your chest to force you to take a deeper breath after another.

"I thought the cyberware would take the impact...", Jackie, the man, had a thick accent.

It was quite distinctive, clearly Latino with a hint of a cocky smile in every word. But at the same time he also sounded like a man who preferred to act instead of use his brain.

Perhaps that was why he had V by his side.

All of a sudden your body went cold. It was without warning and the feeling of a hot, burning fever turned into goosebumps that only the coldest of winter nights managed to bring.

V let out a sound of annoyance. You could feel her breath tickle your cheek. She listened for your heartbeat.

"Didn't you listen to T-Bugs report?", she took off her jacket and placed it on your chest to lock in some of the remaining warmth. "No cyberware here."

"Who the fuck lives in Night fucking City and has no chrome?"

"Someone who doesn't need to fight for themselves."

"Saka scum."

"Whatever. We gotta get outa here. Now.", V stoped on the ground a few times. "Hey, T-Bug. Get us going."

A wind ran through your hair while darkness crept into the corners of your vision. Only now did you realise that you had been caught by a flying garbage vehicle.

Quite a smart disguise, you had to give them that.
