You trembled all over as Goro wrapped his black jacket around your shoulders and pulled it tightly shut. There was still sweat that shimmered on your forehead.
You weren't hot nor cold. Your mind was blank, just like your eyes, as you followed the two bodies, tied up, that a unit of corporation cops escorted out of the building.
You had asked them to take both of the criminals to the airport, both for your own gain but also because that was where you'd be able to make them disappear without Yorinobu throwing in a word of complain.
You didn't care what he wanted. Not anymore.
This wasn't about him, his will was obviously broken and the thought that he'd be able to beat the mind of his father. But when Saburo Arasaka wanted something, he got it.
No if's, but's and maybe's.
It was law. Or something close to it.
You needed to take matters into your own hands. For your own selfish reasons. It wouldn't even matter if Yorinobu wanted it or not. The version of him that you carried on one of the two prototype relics wouldn't know.
It would assume that he was himself and it had all been part of the plan. You'd never tell him the truth. It didn't change anything anyways.
"Take your eyes off them.", Goro's hand was so soft as he grabbed you by the chin in a demanding manner and made you meet his eyes.
Your heart softened as the familiar white collided with your concerned (E/C). A deep sigh made your chest quiver.
Tired, you let your forehead fall against his chest.
He was warm. And smelled of iron. No, not iron. You had learned that this was how blood smelled like when it was dry.
"Take me home.", you whispered and pressed your cheek against his torso to listen to the beating of his heart. "I'm begging you."
The expression on his face shifted. He seemed thoughtful all of a sudden. As his hand rose it gently caressed the top of your hair. Almost as it he tried to comfort you.
"I will try.", he said and pushed your legs into the car. "Please tell me if you feel discomfort."
Not quite present, you halfheartedly shook your head. The door of the passenger seat fell shut and for a brief second you were just by yourself.
Lost in thoughts, your eyes wandered down into your lap, where your injured hand rested. Bandages were wrapped around it.
Trauma team had taken good care of the wound, you almost couldn't feel it anymore when moving and your fingers would recover.
No fatal damaged had been caused but it would leave some nasty scars. Naturally, their first offer had been a replacement.
Cyberware.
No, after all what had happened you still did not feel the desire to be connected to metal. So you had declined. The scars would be a part of your story that you'd be able to one day tell anyone who was curious enough to ask about them.
It was a fun little thought, enough to distract you from the dull feeling that numbed your arm all the way to your shoulder.
How high were you on painkillers?
It was probably a concerning amount.
But who cared?
You didn't. Not in the slightest.
You had survived this hell of a shit show and the next thing you'd do would be to stand against Saburo Arasaka and demand what he had promised.
You felt like living risky.
The first turn of the car made you snap out of your mind.
Goro was already behind the wheel. You hadn't noticed him get into the car. Or turning on the engine.
"Whatever...", you mumbled and closed your eyes as your head fell onto your numb shoulder for rest. "I'm... tired."
"I know.", suddenly his hand was on yours, gentle, as if he was frightened you could shatter beneath his touch. Forgive me. "I should have protected you better."
A huff escaped your lips. You did not open your eyes.
"Protect me...", you shook your head, tired, exhausted, absolutely done with everything. "No. No, it's fine. I was careless. You failed your duties. It doesn't matter. It happened."
"I never wanted this to happen.", there was a hint of anger hidden in this confession.
Anger about himself.
"In you I put my trust, my samurai.", your eyes opened a crack wide to meet him with a thin smile. "Will you... protect me a bit longer?"
His gaze left the streets for a moment.
Or was it two?
Maybe even more. Or he didn't even look at you at all. You couldn't remember.
You weren't gifted with an answer. Instead, he grabbed the steering wheel with both hands and put on a stern look again.
It made you chuckle.
Just how dedicated to his duties could a man be?
It almost made you jealous.
Why couldn't he be so dedicated to you?
Was that what you wanted?
Yes. Even though you didn't want to admit it, Goro had grown on you. Not only that, you believed that the sheer sight of his face was enough to take your breath away. His presence made your body feel lighter.
Whenever he was around you did not feel burdened by your duties because he took them off your shoulders. He was responsible enough for the two of you.
You didn't want to loose this. You didn't want to loose him.
But now that your job was down and you had caught the two people that you wanted to get your hands on in the first place it was time to part ways.
You could feel it in your guts that soon a goodbye was necessary. Even though both of you would return to Japan he would return to the side of his master.
And you'd return to peace.
Just like he had promised.
All of a sudden a dark feeling crossed your heart.
He'd keep his word, wouldn't he?
Or did he just lie to your face once more?
That thought made anger boil up inside of you.
No. You wouldn't be the toy of his moods again. Never again. You had paid your debt. It was time for him to live up to the promises.
And maybe even more.
