Chapter 10

Jhilmil stood before the mirror, nervously adjusting her trousers and straightening her polo shirt. She had chosen a comfortable yet sporty attire for her first day at the cricket academy. Her hands trembled slightly as she tied her hair into a neat ponytail, the strands falling gracefully against her back.

Taking a deep breath, she picked up a small box from her dresser. Inside, nestled carefully, vermilion. With trembling fingers, she applied a tiny dot on her hair partition, a symbol of her commitment and the bliss her marital life had brought her.

As she looked at herself in the mirror, Jhilmil couldn't help but feel a mixture of excitement and nervousness. This was the moment she had been waiting for—the opportunity to step onto the cricket field and pursue her passion with unwavering determination.

She walked out of her room, her heart beating rapidly, and found Kavish waiting for her with a supportive smile. He had seen her transformation, both in appearance and spirit, and couldn't help but feel immense pride in his wife.

Jhilmil blushed, feeling the warmth of Kavish's encouragement. She held his hand tightly, drawing strength from their love and support.

Upon reaching the academy, Jhilmil was greeted by the sound of cricket bats, the shouts of coaches, and the laughter of fellow players. The air was filled with excitement and determination. She took a deep breath, letting the energy of the surroundings seep into her being.

She walked onto the cricket field with confidence, ready to give her all and prove herself in the male-dominated world of cricket. However, she couldn't help but notice the girls on the field staring at her, their eyes filled with curiosity and whispers exchanged amongst them.

As she stood among her fellow players, Jhilmil became aware of their amused glances, their laughter resonating in the air. It didn't take long for her to realise the reason behind their reaction. She was the only married woman on the field, and her vermilion dot had caught their attention.

Feeling a twinge of self-consciousness, Jhilmil momentarily questioned her decision to wear the vermilion. She wondered if it made her stand out too much or if it would hinder her acceptance in the cricketing community. But then, she reminded herself of the significance behind that dot—it represented her commitment, her dreams, and her identity.

Instead of allowing the laughter and stares to dampen her spirits, Jhilmil chose to embrace her uniqueness. She understood that she had a different journey compared to her fellow players, but she was determined to prove that marriage and passion for cricket could coexist.

As She stood on the cricket field, her excitement tinged with nervousness, the coach, Mr. Chatterjee, gathered the team for a brief introduction. He spoke highly of Jhilmil's talent, dedication, and her potential to contribute significantly to the team's success. He emphasized that she was an equal member of the squad, deserving of respect and support.

However, not everyone shared the coach's sentiment. Among the players, there was one who couldn't resist making a demeaning comment. With a sneer on her face, she taunted Jhilmil, questioning her presence on the field and suggesting that her place should be in the kitchen, making rotis with a rolling pin.

Jhilmil felt a pang of hurt at the remark, momentarily stunned by the unexpected attack. The words stung, threatening to dampen her enthusiasm and determination. But she quickly gathered herself, remembering her purpose and the journey she had embarked upon.

Instead of retaliating with anger or allowing herself to be demoralized, Jhilmil chose to respond with grace and resilience. She stood tall, looking her mocker in the eye, and spoke firmly but calmly.
