You made your way home, walking down the steep sidewalk slope, headphones around your neck with a notebook tucked under your arm. You weren't quite sure what was playing on your headphones, but it must've been distracting enough to miss the fact someone was barreling towards you from behind, until they crashed into you, causing you both to tumble down the incline in a tangle of arms and legs, some type of hard material smacking your chin when they flipped over your head and landed on your stomach at the bottom of the incline.
You grunted, the air knocked out of you as you hit the concrete.
This is why you usually tried to get home before dark...!
You pushed yourself up as much as you could with the limp, dazed figure on top of you, splayed out.
"Hey...Uh...Hockey dude, you good?" You wheezed, hoping they weren't unconscious.
They moaned uncomfortably, pushing themselves up, shiny, kinda...greasy, black hair falling into their face, an odd mask shoved up onto their head as they blinked, looking disoriented. The mask is probably what smacked you in the face.
You squinted at them.
"Uh...?" You hesitated to shove them off of you, it could be seen as assault, and you didn't feel keen on being stuffed in prison.
"Excuse me, s-sir? Are you a sir...? You-you're kinda crushing me, so if you could-" Their eyes opened wide, head swiveling to meet your gaze, suddenly aware of what happened. "I-oh-oh my gosh, I'm sorry! I-I didn't mean to! I swear! I-" "Please just get off?" You didn't care much for an explanation until they were off of you.
They scrabbled to their feet, face redder than the cherry cover on your notebook, as you pushed yourself to your feet, you brushed off your clothes, dusting any dirt away from the fall.
You sighed and turned back to the person who still stood there, looking nervous.
"So, now you may explain why this happened, are you running from someone? Cuz if it's the cops, I am SO out of here." You said firmly, still willing to crack a joke. To be honest, the guy, or...person, really needed new clothes, wearing bandage wraps and tatters, along with banged up, yet advanced armor. Their hair definitely was greasy, getting a better look at it, and they had a bit of whiskers on their chin.
You squinted, peering at them. "Would it be weird to say you look like you're from an apocalyptic future?" They blinked. "How did you know?!" You squinted. Well, New York had just recently finally recovered from an alien invasion, so maybe that was one clue, but you had no belief in them actually being from the future.
You turned on your heel. "M'kay, so, you're insane, got it. I will call the asylum the moment I'm in the safety of my home." You stated, striding away.
But rather than the confused silence or unintelligible, screw-loose screaming you expected to hear, you heard their feet start pounding after you, they stepped into time with you.
"I'm not crazy, I really am fro-" "Nope, no, go away, I'm not doing this. Don't care if you're unhinged or role playing, I want none of it." You argued over them.
They weren't taking your answer at face value at all, and kept walking with you.
"My name is Casey Jones, I'm from the future! I helped save the world from the invasion!" They urged.
Now that...
That stopped you.
Your feet halted in their steps and you calmly folded your hands in front of your chest, taking a steady breath as you turned to them. "So, Lemme get this straight...you came back, presumably to stop it, and did so, successfully...so then why aren't you back in your own time?" You asked, trying to wrap your head around this person's crazy story.
