Let's be honest, honey, you pulled no punches making it obvious how grateful you were to the mutant who helped you. His contact in your phone was "My Hero" and the picture you'd chose was one you managed to find from a mascot dance battle he'd had in the square.
You drew him in your spare time, and he had a tendency to talk more, through verbal rambling over a call, than a text.
Texts were reserved for short conversations, not when he felt like talking about his projects.
"My Hero: I'm suddenly realizing that you have labeled my contact as 'My Hero', would you care to explain, Y/N?"
You lit up, giggling and kicking your legs up, abandoning your sister on the couch and going to your room.
"Y/N: Well, you saved me a couple weeks ago, it makes sense, doesn't it, Donatello?"
You swayed in place, smiling to yourself as you waited for a reply. P
"My Hero: Yes, I suppose that makes sense, but it seems...rather gratuitous."
You snickered.
"Y/N: Nonsense, Donatello! It is completely called for! I was gonna be frickin' murdered!"
You tapped your feet anxiously. Maybe you were being overly grateful, but it felt natural!
"My Hero: You do know you can just call me Donnie, right? My father usually only uses my full name of Donatello when I'm in trouble."
You grimaced.
Now you knew you'd gone too far with the gratitude.
"Y/N: It just feels kind of...Disrespectful to call you by a nickname."
"My Hero: Well, 'My Hero' is a nickname, is it not?"
You grimaced, he had you there.
You quickly swallowed the tense air, and changed his contact name to 'Donnie'.
"Y/N: Uhm, is that better?"
You felt a bit disappointed, but the last thing you wanted was your sweet savior, who you loved to listen to, and hear from, and talk with, to be uncomfortable, because of you.
"Donnie: Very. Thank you, I appreciate your cooperation."
You pouted.
"Y/N: You're still my hero though, okay?"
Your sister called you and your family for dinner and you smiled a bit.
"Y/N: Gotta go, TTYL, Donnie!"
You sent a sparkly pink heart emoji with it and sprinted back to your family, telling them who you were talking to.
They knew about the person who saved you, but you did leave out details, such as the fact of him being a mutant, and the fact you knew his name, rather than simply, and obstinately, calling him your hero.
Little did you know, the last message you sent before your 'see you later', made Donnie abandon his phone in fluster with a flushed face to hide in his bed under blankets.
