You knew for a fact, that Mikey had met your mom months ago, regardless of the risks, to tell them what was going on with you. They told you, and that was good enough. You appreciated what he did.

You moms like to talk about the little turtle lad throughout the day to you, to connect with you, and keep you distracted from the intrusive, or suicidal thoughts...

It really helped.

Your moms would laugh when they got you to laugh, and it was like a warm, overlapping chorus in a symphony. It brought washes of calm over you, and you loved when your moms were happy, it made you feel happy.

"That little box turtle is adorable, he's such a sweetheart. Did you know he dropped off cookies for you this morning? Fresh on the window of your room, he even waved to us!" Mom chuckled. You blushed a little. "He's sweet like that." "His cookies are sweet too! They're very good!" Mama laughed, throwing her head back, wiping the crumbs away.

"Mama! Let her have some!" Mom laughed, lightly swatting your mom's arm. It was like nothing changed at all.

Until you looked at the living room. A whole year had passed, but you could still vividly see and imagine your brother's in the living room, playing games and laughing, maybe calling and asking you for a cookie...

It was the day your brother's died, and you and your mom's were gonna set up a memorial shrine on the roof, to set off some lanterns for them...

You were making one of their favorite snacks. They really like candy, especially baking soda and sugar candy. You poured the gooey, foamy mixture onto a pan to cool, and placed your pan and spatula into soapy water, watching the water steam.

Tears brimmed your eyes, even then. You excused yourself to get started on the lanterns with Mama, and quietly worked.

"You alright? I know today is rough, but-" "I thought they were in the living room for a minute...and just for a minute I wanted to tell myself that they were just on the roof waiting for us to bring snacks, but then..." you hiccuped, rubbing your eyes and mama hugged you tightly. "I understand..I do that a lot...sometimes I'll check their room...and then remember they aren't there...sometimes, early morning, I cry, after I remember they're not just away for a while...I just..l wish instead they were on a trip, and not...gone." Mama said softly.

You nodded, hiding your face in her shoulder, not able to speak as silence spread out over you.

-

You sat on the roof, even after they decided to do it inside, as it felt safer. They were asleep now, and you couldn't..

"Is everything okay?" Mikey swung over, landing expertly beside you, looking at your face, leaning forward to do so. "Please don't fall." You sighed, pushing him back softly. "...Is this about your brother's...?" You nodded weakly, your façade crumbling. "...do you need a hug?" He held his arms out and your Strength abandoned you, crying and burying your face in his plastron, hiccuping and wailing away.

"I miss them, Mikey! I could still hear them, laughing over their games, sitting in the living room!" You cried, throat constricting and making you hiccup and choke on your salty tears, holding onto him tighter.

"I miss them! It's never going to stop hurting! It's ne-ever gonna st-ah-ap!" You hiccuped, taking sharp and useless breaths in between your sobs, feeling weak.

He just listened, and rubbed your back, leaning his cheek on your head, letting you cry and existing at your side as a silent comfort...knowing words wouldn't help at this point.

You spent the rest of your conscious time that night, crying and making Mikey rather wet and salty.

Eventually, he carried you to bed, and tucked you in, tying your hair back so it wouldn't stick to your wet cheeks, before rubbing the tears away with his thumbs, and placing a gentle peck on the one tear that escaped in your sleep, smiling softly.

"They love you no matter what place they're in. Earth or Heaven, and any place is Heaven with you In it..." he whispered the words to you in your sleep, and then left out the window.

You wouldn't know these things when you awoke...but he meant every word he said...

He may never say it to you again, but he didn't say it to be praised...

He said it because that's what he felt.

Regardless of whether you'd ever know or not.

And so, you slept, curled up in your comforters and blankets, finally calmed from the day.
