Feels good to be home

Dani’s P.O.V

I stayed in Birmingham for 10 weeks. I had loads of time to just relax and reset myself.

I arrived back yesterday. I now have my own house, It’s not far from London Colney. I am just glad to have my own space. The first thing that I did when I got back was call Leah but she didn’t answer. I hoped that she would call me back when she had time but I’m still waiting for that call to come. I’m going to collect my stuff from Beth’s in a little bit. I haven’t really spoken to anybody while I’ve been away. I have seen that they have all been doing a lot. Both Beth and Viv are going well with their recovery.

I underwent surgery on my knee a week after I got back to Birmingham. I’ve been going well; I am back at Colney tomorrow so the medical team can access where I am but I’m pretty sure that I will be able to start running again in the next week.

I knocked on the door of Beth’s apartment. She opened the door pretty quickly. She said “Hi Dani, come in”

I said “hey, thanks” we both walked into the living room where Viv was sitting on the sofa. They hadn’t actually told me that they were together but I could tell with the things that they have posted on their socials. I smiled at Viv and said “Hey”

She said “hey Dani, how are you?”

“Yeah, I’m good thanks. You?” I asked as I sat down on the chair. Beth sat next to Viv on the sofa.

“Yeah, I’m good too. How’s your knee?” She asked

I said “It’s better. I’m not running yet though. I’m back at Colney tomorrow. Have to get ready for the start of the season don’t I”

Beth said “yeah you do. Like the rest of us”

I said “I actually can’t wait. I miss it”

Viv said “we both know what that feels like. At least you will be back fit soon”

“I know. I don’t know how you guys coped being out for so long” I said

“It’s just one of those things where you take one step at a time. It was probably the same for you just your steps didn’t take as long” Beth said

“That’s true” I took a breath and then I said “feels good to be home” I realised what I said and felt the need to clarify what I meant. So, I then said “I mean being back in St Albans not here. It’s actually weird saying that because of just coming back from my hometown but I guess you guys know what I mean”

Beth said “I know what you mean. Where are you going to live now?”

“I got myself a house about 10 minutes from here” I said

“Just you or are you moving in with someone else. I know Alessia was looking for somewhere” Beth said

I replied “nah, just me. I’m not sure what Lessi is doing, I haven’t spoken to her. I think I just need my own space right now”

“That’s fair enough. Have you spoken to Leah?” Beth asked

“We texted a bit while I was away but not really” I answered

Beth said “I feel like I interrupted something when I came to check on you after the Villa game. Did I?”

“Truthfully, I don’t even know. I thought maybe but then she’s been so off with me since I’ve been away that I’m starting to think that I imagined it” I said

“I probably shouldn’t be telling you this but she was pretty upset that you chose to leave. She wanted to help you through your injury” Beth said

I said “Doesn’t look like she’s been upset. Actually, looks like she has been having the time of her life”

“You know Leah better than anyone. She’s masking her feelings” Beth said

“I don’t know what to believe because it hasn’t felt like she has been bothered about my recovery. In actual fact there was only 1 person that I have been in regular contact with over the last couple of months. Only 2 people actually called to check on me the day of my surgery” I said

Beth said “who?”

“Katie and Viv” I said

“Leah didn’t call you?” Viv asked

I said “she didn’t even send me a text”

Beth said “she’s hurt”

“So am I” I said
