Leaving Japan to go back to America wasn't on my list this year. I was told it would happen one day, but it didn't expect it to be so soon. To be honest, I was really excited to finally leave this place. Yes, it is very nice here but I wasn't what I thought it would be. I used to live in the United States, but due to my mother's family and business, we moved. I didn't know what her business was since no one told me anything. My mother, Katsumi, informed me we were relocating to New York City instead of San Francisco. I knew life in America was way different and it made me miss my hometown in Japan. New York was known for many things, and crime was one of them, including the Statue of Liberty, which I thought to be bigger. I didn't understand why my parents would want to move here in the first place until they told me that they made good money here. In time, I grew fond of this city and some of its people. It wasn't bad for my first year.

When I overheard several of my parents' employees talking about their work two years later, I began to doubt my parents' business. Something concerning a man known as "The Shredder." I could tell he sounded dangerous, and I was right. I tried to talk to my parents about it after doing some research, but every time I tried, they swiftly changed the conversation. Of course, they forced me to take ninjitsu, dance, and painting for the following two years in an effort to keep me occupied. I was upset by it, so I started acting rebellious toward them in an effort to get their attention and potentially get the information I was looking for but it didn't really work. I hope I find the perfect way for them to tell me before I figure it out myself.

I wasn't really allowed to go anywhere by myself, I was constantly watched over by one of my parents' bodyguards. This sure was going to make me a target to these criminals. One thing I found odd was the many ninjas at my parents' work. While waiting for them in the car, I noticed these guys with katanas inside the building. "Why are those guys dressed like that here? Won't people find it weird?" I asked them. "The people of New York see weird things all the time. They question but mind their business," my father said as he cleaned his glasses.

"I dout that."

It was just another cold night in New York with the moon shining bright above, a full moon. She hated the city lights for not making the stars visible. Light pollution was one of the things getting in the way of seeing stars; some nights, it would be the smog. Weekends were the nights she got to go wherever she wanted, and most of the time, she would run away from the bodyguard, making their jobs more difficult. Life sucks for Akari ever since she got home schooled. The only friends she had were the housemaids. She liked to befriend anyone, including the spiders she would find on the walls. The rooftop of the apartment had a beautiful garden, too, but the place was still a prison, keeping her away from society. It's not like she could complain, but it was indeed too much.
