Akari was having second thoughts. She felt nervous and felt like she could’ve worn a different outfit. It all felt weird to her, going to see them after all these years. She took a deep breath as they walked closer to the entrance of the lair. “Nervous already?” April looked over her shoulder, looking at the poor girl playing with her long sleeves. “A bit.  It just feels odd.” Akari smiled. “Don’t worry, they are still the same turtles. They haven’t changed all that much” Casey added, smiling at the girl.

She missed hanging out with both of them. April was like a big sister to Akari. Both Casey and April became like family along with others. After walking for a bit, they arrived at the entrance. She took a deep breath once again and shook her arms. “Okay, I’m ready.” Akari didn’t realize how bad her social anxiety was until she returned to Japan. It was a nightmare, but she still had that anxiety with her. It was like meeting them all over again. Casey pulled a small lever over their heads, and the entrance opened. They all walked in, and Akari felt her heart thumping. The place looked a lot bigger than she remembered, and it was much more organized. She heard their voices deeper and more mature than the last time she heard them. April quickly walked to where the turtles were, “Hey guys! Look who’s finally here!”

She saw two of them approaching to see who it was, She smiled at both of them, Donatello and Michaelangelo. “Akari!? Is that you?” Mikey stood up from the couch, ran to her, and gave her a big hug. She smiled, “Yes Mikey it’s me!” she hugged him back, missing his warm hugs, “Wow look at you! You've grown!”

“Mikey you almost knocked her over,” Donnie shook his head as he approached the two, “You look more different than I expected.” “I missed you too, Donnie” She hugged him next. “Where is Master Splinter?” she asked as they walked to the kitchen. “He’s meditating right now. He just got the news that you are here.” Michelangelo said as both he and Casey were ordering pizza.

“And…Raphael?”

“Probably sleeping. That’s all he ever does since Leo left.” Donnie added, sounding worried for his brother.

“What’s with all the noise?” A sleepy yet loud voice was heard. “Some of us are trying to-” It was Raphael looking down from upstairs, stopping mid-sentence. He recognized the girl but didn’t say anything in case it wasn’t. He wasn’t quite sure since the girl looked a bit different.

“Hey Raph. Long time no see.” The girl gave him a small wave and smile, “Your voice sounds different.”

“Akari?” The turtle jumped down and walked to the group, taking a closer look at his old friend. The girl blushed.

“You look different.”

“Different as in good or bad?”

“I say good. Your hair is longer now. Ya sure you can brush all that?”

“If I couldn’t I would have cut it by now.” They both smiled at one another. Raph’s feelings about her didn’t change. He liked her, but he was pretty upset that she didn’t come back like she said she would after the shredder’s defeat. All he did was think about her, even dreaming of her returning. And finally, here she was right in front of him at last, still thinking about the last time they saw each other, what he was going to tell her. How bad he felt after ignoring her, but he was a dumb young teenager. He did get over her and accepted that she wouldn’t return at some point. It still hurt him.
