season 1 episode 1; a searing burst of light
Once they arrived back at the Crows club, they all sat in a corner in silence. Inej playing with one of her knives as Nataliya started reading the book on Saints again. She has been trying to find anything to help her learn more about being a Corspewitch, especially ways to control that part of her "gifts".
Jesper suddenly spoke up, "Here's what I don't get."
Inej stopped spinning her knife to look at Jesper and then back at Nataliya, "We're going to be here all night."
"Rude." Jesper let out as Nataliya held in her laugh.
"Why haven't they tried going under it? Just dig a tunnel." Jesper wondered as he sat up from his seat.
Kaz looked at him as he had his hands placed on his cane, "Tried that. More than a century ago. Something... heard them digging."
Jesper narrowed his eyes, "It was made hundreds of years ago by that crazy Grisha-"
"The Black Heretic," Nataliya immediately corrected him as she closed her book.
"The one who controls shadow. They've got one in their army now. General Kirigan?" He asked them curiously.
Inej furrowed her eyebrows as she moved her attention from her knife to him, "Your point?"
Jesper suggested, "If one of his kind made it, can't he unmake it?"
"Have you ever put out fire by adding more fire?" Nataliya asked him as she leaned forward.
"Then what's the opposite?" Jesper wondered.
"A Sun Summoner," Inej let out as Nataliya remembered reading about a prophecy of a Sun Summoner that would destroy the fold.
"Right, then, one of those," Jesper agreed with her simply as he leaned back.
"Doesn't exist," Kaz interrupted their conversation looking seriously like he always did.
"Doesn't exist yet." Inej argued with him calmly as she looked at Kaz who now stared at her.
Nataliya knew the topic of Grisha and their saints were always touchy with Kaz and Inej. It usually causes them to get into big fights, both Jesper and Nataliya understand both sides of why they believe and don't believe. Nataliya wouldn't say she was a nonbeliever; however, she only has faith in a few saints, one being Sankta Persephone.
"Dreesen comes into town, doesn't waste a minute. Sends out for a crew to steal something but doesn't specify what. Is it heavy, large, worth more than a million on the black market?" He looked at the group, who all looked at the table.
"Maybe he doesn't know." Inej admitted as she looked towards Nataliya who was focusing on Kaz's heartbeat.
"We can let this one go, Kaz." Nataliya assured him even if she knew what that meant for her and Inej.
