season 1 episode 3; the making at the heart of the world
The following day Kaz had informed both Inej and Nataliya that he was able to make a deal with Heleen. That the two could join him and Jesper on the journey to the Little Palace.
Nataliya tried to hear of any indications of a lie because she couldn't believe Heleen would allow them, but she heard nothing. Just a steady beat that brought her peace.
Nataliya couldn't wait to finally leave the dark streets of Ketterdam behind. After years she had been imprisoned in the city, she was finally able to be free, even if it was for a few days.
They currently were on their way to Novokribirsk, which was a city in west Ravka. The carriage shook as they rolled over the thick stones that lay on the street.
"I didn't hire you simply to get us across the Fold. You're with us because you smuggle Grisha out of the Little Palace, and that's the location of our target." Kaz explained to Arken.
Arken still seemed pretty tense as he sat next to Jesper and Inej while Nataliya and Kaz were on the opposite.
"Sun summoner," Inej immediately corrected Kaz who gave her a dark look.
"Alleged." The two exchanged an annoyed look as Nataliya just shook her head at them.
"They wouldn't keep a fraud in the most secure location in all of Ravka." Inej reasoned with him.
"Inej does have a point. It never hurts to have a little faith." Nataliya added as she held her gaze out the window watching the scenery of the dark and gloomy city disappear.
Kaz didn't reacted to their words as he turned to the man again. "You said you have a contact who can get us inside. A Heartrender."
The thought of meeting another heartrender excited Nataliya. She only ever knew Milana who helped the girl out a bit by getting books about Grisha and Saints. So, Nataliya could learn more about being a Grisha.
The man looked at him carefully through his glasses as he let out a hum, "Mhm."
"How do I know we can trust her?" Kaz questioned him as he stared at the Conductor.
Arken told them, "Nina grew up there."
Kaz immediately interrupted him, "Most Grisha grew up in the Little Palace. Very few would betray their general, and fewer still would help foreigners kidnap their most prized possession."
Nataliya brought her gaze back into the carriage as her eyebrows furrowed. The crows knew little pieces about her past, especially how her village was hidden from Grisha testers. So, she never was properly trained to use her gifts.
She only ever grew up reading books about basic heartrender moves, which was enough for her to defend herself if it ever came down to it. As well as anything to explain the sense of death that she would feel when using her gifts.
