Tom Riddle Era (1944)

I ran and ran, without a care in the world. Enjoying the peace after so much misery, it felt like I could fly.....Suddenly, I tripped and a branch snapped under my foot, echoing throughout the forest.

I froze, my heart beating at a 100 miles an hour as I waited for something to happen. I breathed a sigh of relief after nothing happened for a good 10 minutes. But just before I could continue, an ear-piercing howl sounded from behind me. I slowly turned my head and saw it. A werewolf. It's golden eyes bore into mine, daring me to make a move.

I stayed completely still, praying silently that it would leave. It turned, apparently hearing something else. So I took that chance and sprinted off. As I went, I heard paws hitting the ground behind me at a rapid pace. Oh shit. I'm gonna die. I sped up, beginning to sprint instead. And just as I did, I felt some of my stitches tear open. I gritted my teeth in agony, ignoring the blood that began to slowly seep out of me.

As I grow more and more lightheaded, I have the urge to give up. But that's when I saw it. The towers of Hogwarts, with lights from the castle illuminating the grounds through the darkness. That gave me a boost of motivation, despite my severe lack of blood. How I hadn't died yet was shocking.

Suddenly, the branches and bushes of the forest began to thin out, and...I made it out of the treeline! I felt near ready to collapse: my energy was draining fast but I was sure I could make it to the castle!

I pushed on, nearing the castle, excited that I'd make it as in a few metres, I'd reach the gates. Unfortunately, with my luck, I tripped yet again. And this time, the werewolf pounced immediately, biting into my leg. I struggled, and just before giving up, I kicked it hard with my other leg, sending it flying back a little.

I forced myself up and began limping to the gates as fast as I could. After a few minutes, I managed to reach the gates, the wards around the castle preventing the werewolf from entering. I slowly turned around to see the werewolf run away and sighed in relief. The light-headedness then returned, my previous burst of adrenaline slipping away.

Turning back to the castle, I noticed the great hall's lights on giving me a spark of hope again. If I can just get inside...
I paused, taking a few deep, raspy breaths, slowly making my way inside.
I used my remaining strength to push open the castle's doors and then push open the great hall's doors, collapsing instantly in the doorway.

In the great hall, a number of teachers, the headboy and prefects run over. Tom is furious when he realises it's Y/n, but he feels strange when he sees the bite on her leg causing blood to pool everywhere and numerous other cuts and bruises that something or someone other than him had inflicted.

"Tom, my boy, take her to the infirmary will you?" Headmaster Dippet asked him. Tom sighed internally, leaning down to pick her up with his hands, and walked out of the great hall.

When he eventually arrived and lay her down waiting for the nurse, she regained consciousness and saw Tom. "Tom, help me, please it's chasing me!" She begged, clearly still believing she hadn't made it to the castle.

"Y/n. You're in Hogwarts, in the castle. You're in the infirmary and you will be safe" he muttered to her in an attempt to calm her. She took a deep breath, before mustering a small smile. As she was now calm, he proceeded to use legillimency to see what happened to her. As he watched the scene play out in her head, the uneasy feeling in his stomach returned once again.

Slowly, he leaves her mind and that's when he notices Y/n focused on him. "Your eyes are so beautiful Tom, I could get lost in them forever" she managed to get out before erupting into a coughing fit. Tom instinctively moved toward her and rubbed her back. "Thank you, y/n" he replied, confused as to why she still looked at him like that.

"Tom, there is something I must tell you" she told him once her coughs had ceased. He nodded, a gesture for her to continue

"I will love you for eternity Tom, despite what you've done and that you'll never love me back. I want to hate you, but my heart won't let me. I hope you get all you want Tom, and I'm sorry that I wasn't enough. I do hope I'll get to see you in the afterlife, even if I have to go down to hell to get to you. Don't give up your dreams of being a great wizard. And take care of yourself Tom Marvolo Riddle" she whispered, before gasping for air.

She knew her time was up and so as her last act on Earth, she clung onto Tom and looked into those mesmerising eyes of his, forcing him to watch the life drain from hers. In that moment, he managed to place the unease. It was guilt. Guilt about how he'd treated her, when she'd only ever cared for him. And so, whilst no one was there, he let out a few tears, that trailed down his cheeks.

He lifted his right hand slowly, feeling her body had gone cold. Then he moved his hands up and closed her eyelids. And that's when he began sobbing uncontrollably beside her. "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry Y/n, for everything" he tells her corpse, the tears flooding out. "You never deserved any of this. I never deserved you! I wish you were alive so you could get revenge, so you could tell me how much you hate me. But more importantly, so I could tell you how much I love you too" he cried.

Eventually, Madam Pomfrey hurried in, gasping at Y/n's corpse. Tom quicly wiped the tears away and sniffled. "Madame Pomfrey, would you please heal her wounds? It'd be good if she didn't look like she was in so much pain when she died" he asksed her.

He then left the infirmary, heading straight to Headmaster Dippet's office, asking to bury Y/n. Seeing his state, the headmaster agreed without hesitation, making Tom rush back to the infirmary. He entered, noticing her wounds now healed, yet her skin looked sickly pale still, given that most of her blood had seeped out of her body.

Without a word to the doctor, he lifted her body, swiftly made his way out of the castle and apparated away. When he arrived, a small smile took over his place as he thought back to the time he had brought her here on one of their fake dates. She was overjoyed by the sheer range of flowers that bloomed in the field, and in her excitement, turned and kissed him for the first time.

He was shocked by it, but nevertheless he had kissed her back, and now he didn't regret it. He carried her to the centre of the field, where some flowers had unfortunately been trampled on. But it gave him enough space to dig the hole for her burial without, killing any of the flowers she had adored.

Once the hole was dug, he gently placed her corpse into the hole. He leaned in and pressed a last kiss to her forehead before re-filling the whole with soil. He then marked the place with a headstone, knowing that soon the space would be covered again with flowers and he'd want to find her grave. After burying her he returned to hogwarts, returning to his emotionless state.

In the times he has thought of Y/n, since her death, he spared the people he was going to kill or torture, granting them mercy in memory of her sweet personality.
