"Steven! You promised us macaroni!" Amethyst exclaimed in her vibrato sing-song voice.

"Okay! Okay!" He laughed, filling the pot with water.

Garnet was still seated next to you on the couch. "You said they wouldn't come back until we told them to," you protested, whispering into her ear.

"Sorry, wrong timeline," she replied, making you click your tongue. She chuckled and kissed your temple softly before standing up.

"Oh, man, the fire doesn't work! I can't cook here," Steven took his hand to his forehead.

"Oh, yeah, we forgot. Garnet!" Amethyst shouted to where you both were.

She gently squeezed your hand before walking towards Steven and grabbing the pot in her hands. In an instant, the water was already bubbling.

Steven smiled proudly. "Didn't think of that. Thank you, Gar-"

"Don't. You'll burn your hands," she was the one to leave the pot instead.

"Oh, okay." He grabbed the macaroni package and poured it into the water. "Should've thought of that, though. As Garnet always says, 'Take a moment to think of just macaroni and pizza crust,'" he sang in a high-pitched tone, mockingly putting his hands together as dancing.

Everyone, including you, started laughing, and Garnet shook her head with a smile.

"Take a moment to think of just, macaroni and pizza crust," he grabbed the pot by the handles. "Here comes a pot, that might alarm you." That made the gems laugh even harder.

"There's pasta to make, we can use sauce or onions," he kept singing, and the gems' laughter wouldn't stop.

"That is not how the song goes," Garnet interfered as she hid her smile.

"Of course it is! You just sang it wrong the whole time!" And with a hip movement, he returned to cooking.

"That's the missing part for a happy life I've been looking for!" Amethyst exclaimed. "Someone to laugh at Garnet!"

"Oh, Amethyst, don't say it like that." She turned to Garnet. "We really like your song, but Steven's version might be winning."

Garnet sighed, "I guess you're right." She walked towards where Steven was cooking.

He moved his elbow and accidentally dropped his wooden spoon. Garnet ducked and grabbed it before it touched the ground. "Also forgot about that, thank you so much!" Steven grinned widely.

"No problem, but your song is," she smiled teasingly, crossing her arms over her chest.

"You guys haven't heard me singing in years! Admit it, you loved it," he raised his eyebrows up and down more times than he should've.

Garnet chuckled. "Okay, I loved it," she squeezed Steven even tighter. "I really missed you."

"I missed you too, a lot," he muttered back, his head next to hers as tall as he had grown. "I kinda miss only being able to hug your leg, though."

Garnet chuckled. "Those were good times, but I don't think I would want to go back."

It was eating time! Nobody had to tell you; it was obvious, especially for Amethyst's clear happiness and constant banging of the cutlery against the table. "Food! Food! Food!"

"Amethyst! Tone it down! You're going to break the table!" Pearl lifted Amethyst's arms.

"Let her be, she's just excited," Garnet defended her in a soothing voice. You were seated next to her at the table, she reached out to grab your hand and rubbed it with her thumb; your face couldn't get any redder.

How did you survive five years without her touch? All you wanted to do was kiss her. She moved her chair closer to yours, making your knees touch.

"Who's hungry? Other than Amethyst, I mean." Steven left a huge bowl of macaroni on the table. "This is not just a bowl of supermarket-premade."

And he was so right. He gave each one a plate delicately decorated with a basil leaf.

"Also, it's a vegan plate, but if you want cheese, it also tastes really good," he left a small bowl of grated parmesan next to the main meal.

You took the first forkful into your mouth. The tomato sauce, or as Steven called it, pomodoro, was what you supposed heaven tasted like. It didn't feel sugary like the usual; it actually had a flavor that melted in your mouth. And the pasta wasn't too bland or too hard; it was perfect.

You sprinkled parmesan over your plate, and it just made it all the better. Why were you getting so emotional over macaroni?

"Steven! It's really good! Where did you learn it?" You exclaimed, your mouth full; maybe that wasn't so correct.

"Connie has really long work shifts, so I have as much time as I need to perfect my cooking. Also, I've been going to classes," he scratched his neck with a smile.

You looked at Amethyst, who had already devoured her plate three times and was on her way to the fourth. Then you looked at Pearl, who you hadn't noticed had a much smaller plate than you or Garnet, but was trying really hard to finish. Then at Garnet, who caught you staring before you could analyze.

You had a cheek stained with some tomato sauce, she grabbed her napkin and cleaned it for you. "There."

You probably had some left because of how red your face was. How was she able to make you feel like that? And to think you thought you were over it.

You glanced at Garnet's plate; she had already finished, and she had a wide grin on her face. "It was delicious, Steven. Connie is a lucky woman."

Everyone at the table laughed. "I'll make sure she knows that," he finished his plate as well.

Amethyst let out a giant burp after presumably eating at least seven plates. "Never eaten better."

Steven chuckled and turned to Pearl next to him. "So?"

"It was amazing, Steven," Pearl answered with her plate being half full.

He smiled; he knew she wouldn't have eated that much if she truly didn't like it. "Then I'm leaving college to open an Italian restaurant, 'Stefano's Macaroni.' What do you think?"

Laughter filled the air once more. "I'd recommend it to all my friends," you replied with a grin.

"Same here," Amethyst added, hugging Garnet and Pearl by their shoulders, the three of them smiling as well.
