"So..." You sighed. "Last session before classes. How's everything going?" You inquired as leaning onto the desk.
Steven groaned. "Vacations are too short, but I am excited about this course, specially because you'll also be there."
You grinned. "I'm really looking forward to it too. Did you have a good time yesterday at the sleepover, by the way?"
"I slept fantastically, actually. But Amethyst and Pearl wouldn't stop mumbling about something I didn't understand, do you know anything about that?" He moved his chair closer.
You couldn't have been caught, right? You and Garnet both made sure of it.
"Uh... No. No idea."Several minutes went by, and so did the topics, because not even an hour later Steven had started glowing pink.
Control was already lost to whatever force the universe had, and you were absolutely mortified. "I'm going to call the gems-" You hid behind your desk and grabbed your phone, but as trying to unlock it, you accidentally clicked the emergency call option.
Too much time was lost, and Steven's spiky bubble had exploded already, not only knocking you out, but your phone as well.
You felt your ears were about to explode as your eyes slowly opened to a flashing light. You didn't have any sense over your body whatsoever and you couldn't distinguish the shades you were admiring.
Garnet felt like crying as she kept shaking you, but ultimately gave up and cupped your cheeks to sob all over you.
And you felt it, the warmth in your neck, the one to slowly bring you back to yourself.
(...)
"Are you sure?" You asked, flinching against her soothing touch.
"Of course. I have to," she gently rolled up your sleeve, revealing the stab mark.
You winced as the cotton she used grazed your wound.
"Sorry," she mumbled, her gaze filled with concern. She turned back to the first aid kit, retrieving the bandages she'd use in a moment.
You took a sharp breath, enduring the momentary pain.
"I can't believe Steven did this to you," she whispered as she skillfully binded your arm. "I hope he's okay."
You adjusted your sleeve back once she finished. "He must be, Pearl and Amethyst are with him," you added, testing your arm's comfort. "Good thing you guys called the ambulance soon enough. Poor guy, he went through much more than I thought."
Garnet's soft smile faded, replaced by a sorrowful expression. It seemed she wanted to say something, but held back. "Yes."
You met her gaze. "You should've gone with them."
She frowned slightly. "I'd like to know who would've taken care of you in that case."
You pouted. "I can take care of myself."
"Darling," she muttered, sitting down on the couch, and motioned for you to join her. "When we found you... You were unconscious on the floor, your own blood was pooling under your arm, and your phone dialing 911 right next to your head." You looked down, and she reached out to hold her hand. "Amethyst and Pearl volunteered to take Steven to the hospital, so I brought you home instead."
"So that's why I woke up here," you muttered in realization. "You're right, I'm sorry."
"No, I'm sorry. My future vision failed me; I should've been able to warn you, both of you," she said, clenching her fists. You gently lifted her chin to meet her eyes.
"No, it's not your fault," you assured her, holding both her hands. "You saved me and took care of me; you did everything right. I shouldn't have pushed Steven that hard; it's my fault." You cupped her cheeks and smiled. "You did everything right, okay?"
She pulled you into a warm hug, which you returned with gratitude. "I love you too much to let anything happen to you. Let me take care of you."
You smiled, touched by her sweetness and care. "Can you check if Steven is going to be okay?"
She returned your grin. "He is," she said, cupping your cheeks before kissing you softly.
