The four of you were seated on the couch, engaged in a quality conversation as Steven washed the dishes.

He turned to all of you. "Oh! I forgot to tell you! It's been a while, and me and Connie decided we are ready to take the big step!"

"Really?" Amethyst exclaimed.

"Oh, Steven, that's fantastic!" Pearl said as well.

Garnet had no visible reaction, and you felt somewhat strange, not fully comprehending what you had just heard.

He smiled widely. "Yeah! Last month we bought a tree for our garden after seeing that we could take care of plants without me interfering with them, and it's been really good so far! So... We are adopting a cat next month!"

Pearl's expression broke, and Amethyst laughed at it. Garnet smiled softly, and you struggled to take in the news.

"That's wonderful, Steven," Garnet responded, probably already having seen what he said; she wasn't surprised at all.

"You should follow the tradition and name your cat Cat Garnet!" Amethyst continued laughing as Pearl clearly tried to recompose herself.

"We are really proud, Steven," Pearl said slowly, still taking in the information. She stood up. "Let me help you with that," she said, walking to where he was cleaning the plates.

Garnet wanted to help as well. Before she could stand up, she noticed you, eyes closed. She took her hand to your forehead to check if anything was wrong, and before she knew it, you were lying your head on her shoulder. She quickly realized you'd fallen asleep and didn't move at all.

About an hour went by. When you opened your eyes, you saw the living room was empty. You groaned as the pillow didn't feel comfortable, and all of a sudden, a soothing hand stroked your hair.

"You've woken up already," Garnet whispered softly. It wasn't a pillow you were resting your head on; it was Garnet's lap, and somehow, it wasn't that uncomfortable anymore. You yawned tiredly as you tried to get up, but your body didn't respond as expected.

"What time is it? Where's everyone?" you mumbled, making it hard for her to understand you as she caught you from falling down. She rested your head against her shoulder.

"They went to say hello to the neighbors now that Steven is here. You passed out right after eating. If you aren't feeling well, we can tell Steven to heal you when he comes back," she wanted to ask you how you felt, not only couldn't, but she already knew the answer.

She took her hand to your forehead, checking for any fever. Her three eyes were mesmerizing without her visors on.

"It won't be anything serious," you yawned once again. You wanted to stand up but couldn't even raise your head; your body felt too tired.

"You can keep resting if you want," she kissed your forehead softly. "I can get you a blanket and a pillow," she was about to stand up, but you didn't move, not letting her.

"N-no, it's okay, really." You muffled against her chest. Not even knowing how, you moved your face away and rested your back on the couch.

"Darling, we both know that's not true," you closed your eyes to what felt like a hug, and in the end, she managed to get you to lie down on the couch without you even noticing. "I'm getting you a glass of water." She sat up with you not being able to interfere.

After a minute or so, she walked back to you, raising your head with her palm, she gave you the cup. "Try to drink, just a bit, it will help you."

You obliged, why wouldn't you? She could see the future; it was the best for you. You exhaled, "Thank you."

With a small grin on her face, she answered, "It's no problem. Now, rest." She moved a pillow behind your head, then lied you against it carefully.

Before you could protest, she put a blanket on you. Your eyes closed as if by magic, and it was already too late to open them.

Two more hours went by, and Steven and the gems were still in town. Opening your eyes once again, you saw Garnet sitting beside you, her fingers carefully lingering through your hair. "Hey," she whispered softly.

You stretched, humming tiredly as you did so. "Garnet," you mumbled, dragging your body toward hers. "How long has it been?"

She hugged you back, lying down as you laid on top of her. "Two hours, but don't worry, the rest isn't back yet."

You held her tightly, resting your face on her chest. Chuckling, you asked, "Have you been here the whole time?"

She gently shook her head. "If I'm honest with you, no. I didn't want to disturb your sleep, so I just checked when were you going to wake up." She cupped your cheeks with her fingers, gently rubbing them with her thumb.

You moved off her and instead lied beside her. You slightly shrugged. "I would've done the same in your place," you closed your eyes and wrapped your arms around her neck; you both were face to face. "I'm sorry about that, I don't know what has gotten into me."

She closed her eyes as well before softly nuzzling you. "It's okay," after answering, she kissed your lips ever so gently. It was what you'd been wanting the whole day.

You felt her hands sliding down to your waist, and you held her tightly as well.

When she pulled out of the kiss, all you were thinking about was kissing her again. "I'm so, so sorry."

"I told you Steven can heal you," she answered softly, caressing your cheek.

"You know I'm not talking about that," you continued; her loving gaze disappeared and turned into a colder one as her eyes dropped.

"You already apologized, and I already forgave you. There's nothing we can do about it now." She smiled again, yet this time her grin was much smaller. Then she gently kissed your forehead.

"It doesn't make me feel any better," you sighed. "Isn't there anything I can do to at least try to make it up to you?"

Her smile, even though very little, grew at your sensibility. "Let's say you owe me one, and I'll use that card whenever I need it," she softly pecked your lips again.
