I wiped the sweat from my forehead as I brought my last box in. I just moved into my new apartment and I'm just ready to get settled in.

I walked to my  door seeing a short skinny girl struggling to bring in her bags. I sat my box down and came over to help her.

She smiled.

Lorenzo - a thank you would be nice.

She frowned and signed to me that she was deaf.

Lorenzo - my bad.

An older woman came out of the apartment next door and looked at her and she immediately went inside leaving the bags on the ground. I picked them up.

Lorenzo - I'm your new neighbor, Lorenzo. I just moved in next door.

Vivian - I don't care just stay away from my daughter.

Lorenzo - I was just helping her out

Vivian - don't care

She shut the door.

Damn , what the hell is wrong with that lady?

Veronica Chandler

My mom walked back in the house and handed me my hearing aids.

I put them on. I really don't like wearing them because I feel like people treat me different.

Vivian - you stay away from men like that Ronnie.

Ronnie - mama he seemed nice.

Vivian - and it's probably an act. Don't fall for it and wear your hearing aids girl.

Ronnie - okay.

What really shocked me about the guy is that he really knew some sign language. Even if he knows a little bit, I'm relieved because most people don't and when I do sign to them, they look at me crazy.

I sat outside smoking when I saw the girl from earlier walk outside. She had trash bags in her hands. She went to the dumpster and threw them in.

Lorenzo - damn your mama let you out the house.

She turned around.

Veronica - Im sorry about her. She's just really overprotective.

Lorenzo - I got that from my conversation with her Bambi.

I put my blunt out

Veronica - Bambi?

Lorenzo - yeah , you got those big doe eyes. My bad, I haven't introduced myself, my name is Lorenzo.

Veronica - Veronica.

Lorenzo - I like Bambi better so I'll stick with that.

Veronica - how much sign language do you know because I was shocked when I told you I couldn't hear and you responded back, normally I get weird looks.

Lorenzo - my grandfather went deaf a few years ago, so I know a lot. Bambi , how old are you ?

Veronica - I'm 19. How old are you?

Lorenzo - 23

Veronica - well it was nice meeting you Lorenzo.

Lorenzo - you too Bambi.

She smiled and went back into the building.

I called my grandmother .
