Kera was finally done with her classes. The 10-year-olds and older kids started school a day earlier than the younger kids. As she walked out of the classroom, she saw Jazlyn running to her.

"Kera! Look! I made my lightsaber!" Jazlyn exclaimed excitedly, holding out the handle. Kera held her friend's lightsaber.

"Wow, it's really cool!" Kera said, handing the lightsaber back. "Mine is pretty plain." Kera handed her lightsaber to Jazlyn. It was a plain metal hilt with only one black band around the top and three little pieces on the end of the hilt.

"Can I turn it on?" Jazlyn asked.

"Sure."

Jazlyn pressed the activation button, and a green blade sprang from the hilt.

"Wow...cool!" Jazlyn said with awe. After she gave Kera back her lightsaber, she looked at the books placed on the floor beside Kera and asked, "What's school like? School is starting tomorrow for me, and I don't know what it's like."

"School's fine. You get to meet new friends and do some cool stuff. I find schoolwork kinda annoying but it's fine." Kera said with a casual tone. She noticed that her friend looked worried. "Are you ok? What's up?"

"I had a vision when I made my lightsaber." Jazlyn said softly. She told her the vision. "Master Luke said it was a test...but I'm still worried."

"It's ok. Jedi usually get visions when they make their lightsabers. I had a vision when I made mine." Kera said.

"Yeah, that's what Master Luke said."

"I guess what I'm trying to say is, don't let your vision stop you from making friends. You need friends."

"Ok."

"How about we go play a game." Kera suggested, trying to make her friend happy again.

"Ok!" Jazlyn said, immediately looking happy and smiling once more.

"Awesome! I'll race you!" Kera exclaimed. Jazlyn laughed and they ran off.

The next day Jazlyn walked into the classroom for her first day of school at the temple. She immediately felt shy seeing so many other kids there. She sat down at her desk which she was glad was at the end of a row. Jazlyn looked at the other kids but didn't say anything. The class began and she did everything quietly and carefully. While she was doing an assignment, she forgot she was at the temple, she thought she was at home. Jazlyn was so focused on her work that she began to sing.

"Hush now my baby. Be still love, don't cry.

Sleep as you are rocked by the stream.

Sleep and remember my last lullaby,

So I'll be with you when you dream."

That was one of Jazlyn's favorite songs. Her mind drifted off to another land, far far away with a river that stretched on for miles. The glistening water reflected the sunlight at her as she sang to the baby in her arms. There were the soft instruments accompanying her in the song, the gentle lullaby of the water.

"Jazlyn Reyla!" The teacher called. The little girl's head shot up and she realized she was not at home; she was at the temple. The fact that the teacher had to yell at her made her figure that her name must have been called multiple times and she didn't notice. Everyone was staring at her. She could hear some suppressed laughter in different parts of the room.

"Please, no singing while there's class. It can be distracting."

"I'm sorry...." Jazlyn said, feeling quite embarrassed. Luckily that was the last assignment for that class, so as soon as it was over, she quickly left the room. Jazlyn attended the rest of her classes for the day and quickly left each one as soon as they were done. She didn't want to know what the rest of the kids thought of her. While she was leaving her last class, she heard a few girls talking.

"Oh, it's the girl that sang today. It was so weird that she started singing in the middle of class!" one of them said.

"Yeah totally." another one agreed. Jazlyn had to pass in front of them, to get by.

"Hi squeaker!" said a third as she passed. They started laughing. Jazlyn burst into tears and ran to where she knew Kera was.

Kera was tending to one of the many plants that adorned the temple. She stopped when she saw her little friend come in.

"Kera, I accidentally started singing in the middle of class...and I heard some girls laughing at me!" Jazlyn told Kera through her tears. Kera hugged her gently. They stayed there until Jazlyn calmed down. They sat down on the smooth floor.

"Could you sing for me?" Kera asked. Jazlyn quickly turned her head to Kera with wide eyes. At first, she looked surprised, then scared, but after a moment trusting.

"Ummmm...ok." Jazlyn said hesitantly. She sang the song that she had sung in class. When she was done Kera exclaimed,

"I don't get why they were laughing at you! You have a beautiful voice!"

"Thanks Kera. But I don't know about everyone else." She paused, thinking hard.

"You know what I'm going to do? I'm going to join the Cleaning Service. Then I don't have to work with anyone, and I can sing all I like without getting laughed at!" Jazlyn declared. But that was not her only motivation to distance herself.

And I won't have any friends that could get hurt.

"Aren't you a little young?" Kera asked, looking slightly concerned.

"No, and if I am I'll prove that I'm not." Jazlyn said with determination.

"Ok...well, how about I join you. That way we can talk to each other more." Kera said.

"Ok." Jazlyn said with a small smile."I'd like that."

Explanations for this and future chapters:

I did research and there is an Earth in Star Wars. It is on the Outer Rim, and in Legends it says that's where the human race originated. For my story the Star Wars events happen in the far future but that means movies and other things that were made in our time are still around in the galaxy. So it's not so weird when things are referenced :) .
