Michael lived with Angrophobia.
{Angrophobia - the fear of anger or of becoming angry}
Angrophobia is a complex phobia of sorts. Michael suffered from this phobia from one reason and one reason only: his parents. When Michael was a kid, his parents were angry constantly and often turned to abusing him to release this anger. It wasn't a shocker that he suffered from this fear; children that suffered from abuse were at an increased risk of developing it.
Michael's fear wasn't necessarily as irrational as Ashton and Luke's were. His was extreme to the extent he couldn't function at times, mostly the times that he could feel himself getting frustrated. That was when he almost completely shut down. After developing this fear at the age of fifteen, he became passive and quiet because, after all, the people in the background rarely are effected which meant less of a chance to come in contact with anger.
Out of all the things his fear caused him to miss, the single most important one was the fact that he was great at boxing. All the way up until he quit during sophomore year, he was one of the most talented boxers many people had ever seen that young. He would have had a profession in it if his fear wouldn't have gotten in the way.
Besides boxing, he missed out on parties, and drinking, and breaking rules. And he almost missed out on breaking up a bar fight that involved Faye Oliver: the girl alone at the bar who just so happened to stare at someone for three seconds too long.
