(a/n: kinda important author's note at the end)

Luke couldn't get Faye out of his mind after he left the tattoo shop. And as Luke was laying down on his the couch in the apartment he shared with his best friend, he wouldn't shut up about her. Luke's best friend, Calum Hood, felt awkward as he went on and on about the "gorgeous girl" who did his tattoo. Calum always felt awkward when pretty girls were mentioned, and Luke knew that, but he couldn't help rambling about her.

"I'm telling you Calum, she was stunning. She was so nice too, and really funny, and don't even get me started on her eyes- they were big, and green, and perfect." Luke smiled up at the ceiling making Calum internally gag.

"You're never going to see her again, so shut the fuck up." Calum groaned, rolling his eyes at Luke's awestruck expression.

"Look, just because you don't want to go out and find someone doesn't mean I can't." Luke sat up to look at Calum.

Luke hadn't noticed the prominent bags under Calum's eyes or how messy his hair was when he came barging into his apartment. He couldn't help but wonder if Calum started getting panic attacks regularly again. When the two first met, Calum constantly had bags under his eyes and soon enough Luke found out that it was because Calum would get panic attacks in the middle of the night and never ended up getting any sleep. Luke made Calum go to the doctors where they prescribed him some sort of sleeping pills to help, but now he was wondering if Calum stopped taking them.

"Hey, are you alright?" Luke said gently, cautiously placing his hand on Calum's shoulder.

"I'm fine, just tired and cranky is all." Calum shrugged, but Luke knew that he was lying.

He had only known Calum for a year, but knew more about him than anyone else did. The two boys were as close as friends could be, in fact they were often mistaken as a couple which they found hilarious. (lol #cakeaf)

"I know you're lying, Cal." Luke raised his eyebrows but Calum just shook it off and insisted he was perfectly fine.

Luke absolutely hated the fact the Calum was so hard headed. The boy could literally be sobbing and he would still insist that he was absolutely perfect. On the contrary, Calum hated that Luke was so caring. Luke could see right through him and it was obvious that he genuinely cared about him. Calum wasn't used to knowing someone cared as much as Luke did.

"So, you really like this Faye girl, huh?" Calum asked Luke, desperately trying to change the subject.

"I've never really been interested in someone so quickly before." Luke smiled slightly.

Luke genuinely could see Faye and himself in a relationship: he hadn't stopped fantasizing about it since he left the tattoo shop. And, quite frankly, he didn't think he was ever going to stop.

*flashback*

"It's perfect." Luke smiled as he stood in front of the mirror to look at his tattoo. He could see Faye's reflection in the mirror from behind him and couldn't help but to subtly check her out.

They talked about New York for a little while before Luke finally looked at his tattoo. As they were talking he started to think of what kind of couple they would be or how good of a kisser she was. He couldn't help himself, after all he was kind of a hopeless romantic.

Faye didn't really see Luke as someone she could date, mostly because she didn't date. She saw him as more of a person she could have a completely platonic flirtationship with. That way she could flirt and cuddle with him all she wanted but there would be no strings attached, it would be as friends and nothing else.

That's how Faye saw her relationship with everyone. Platonic. Platonic. Platonic. That's how she saw a relationship with Luke. That's how she saw a relationship with Ashton. That's how she saw a relationship with all of her friends. That's just how it was.

*end flashback*

Calum chuckled at Luke as he started to ramble about Faye again. He was trying to be happy for his best friend because he knew Luke didn't get like this often, but he couldn't help but be jealous. Calum secretly wished that he could talk to girls, and that he could be attractive like Luke was. But Calum couldn't see that he was in fact just as handsome and could in fact talk to girls if he could just get over his dumb little fear.

"Do you know her last name?" Calum asked Luke.

Calum wanted his best friend to be happy, despite how jealous he was, because that's what best friends are supposed to do. He thought maybe he could look her up on Twitter or something and somehow get her to talk to Luke. Would it make him incredible anxious? Of course, but if it made Luke happy, he didn't care.

"No..." Luke scratched the back of his neck and kept telling himself how stupid he was not to find out what her last name was.

"Does the tattoo shop have a website?" Calum raised one of his dark eyebrows at his totally hopeless best friend.

"Yeah, I was on there earlier. Here." Handing his already unlocked phone to Calum, Luke sighed. Luke had been looking up reviews of the shop but never looked farther into the website than that.

"Faye Oliver." Calum smirked at the screen in front of him.

There was a "meet the artists" page on their website which consisted of a short bio and images of all six artists working at the tattoo shop. Faye was second down the list and when Calum saw her picture he could see exactly why Luke was so fixated on this girl. She was undoubtably beautiful and that made Calum fidget awkwardly. Pretty girls like that scared him and he started to question if helping Luke out was a good idea.

"God, even her name is sexy." Luke groaned into a pillow on the couch he was laying on.

Calum rolled his eyes at his friends use of the word sexy. How was Luke one to know what was defined as sexy when he hadn't even had sex yet? Neither of the two boys had, and it bothered them knowing they were both still virgins. Calum found it uncomfortable as Luke continued to ramble about just how sexy he found Faye. He didn't really think Luke could have that judgement due to his lack of experience, but that was just the way Calum thought.

"I found her Twitter." Calum cut Luke off and threw his phone back at him. Chuckling, he watched Luke scramble for his phone and smile widely at the newly found account.

Luke instantly followed her and thought about sending her a DM but decided against it, he didn't want to seem like he was stalking her even though it was evident that's what he was doing. As Calum watched on, Luke couldn't help but be grateful for a friend like him because, let's face it, Luke wouldn't have thought to do that. He would've just continued to dream but never act upon it. Calum was the level headed one despite how much everyone else would beg to differ.

That's how their friendship worked: Luke had an ingenious idea but never did anything about it until Calum found a way to make it work. They were a tag team of sorts, and they were happy like that.

a/n: I'm cake af tbh.

anywho thanks for reading and just a quick update: in "kind of a prologue, kind of an excerpt" (an earlier part in the story) I said nobody had been around Calum except Ashton but I changed it to Luke just so you all know.

(I am soooo sorry I haven't updated but I might double update so be prepared)
