Calum dealt with Caligynephobia.
{Caligynephobia - the fear of beautiful women}
Calum's fear was about as irrational as they come, but he didn't realize it. He thought that it was a serious fear that a lot of people had. It wasn't. His fear started in the sixth grade when his pretty girlfriend, Stacy Peterson, broke up with him for the dumb jock in their science class. After dealing with his fear all throughout high school he stopped talking to girls altogether unless it was 100% necessary. He thought it made his life easier, and that's all he wanted.
Calum had absolutely no reason (besides maybe his "traumatic" break up with Stacy) to have this fear. He was attractive, he was funny, he was really sweet, and just about every beautiful lady in proximity of him nearly fainted at the sight. The mere idea of someone he found attractive made him uncomfortable, incredibly anxious, and queasy in a way. But he thought that was normal, he thought that's how every guy felt; this whole irrational fear was normal to him and he was okay with that even though it actually wasn't okay.
This fear stopped him from dating all throughout high school, it stopped him from losing his virginity, it stopped him from ever being comfortable, and it almost stopped him from hanging out with Faye Oliver: the beautiful girl that gave him panic attacks in the middle of the night.
