Found these on Pinterest and thought they were cute :)
Anyway.....here we go!————————
"Guys this is getting ridiculous! I mean seriously, is there something wrong with me? I can answer that for you. No, no there is nothing wrong with me and still, no one has asked me to the dance!"
PJs on one of her tangents again at the lunch table.
"Maybe you should ask someone"
"Don't even get me started on you Josie, with your hot cheerleader girlfriend"
PJ stabs her food aggressively.
"What are we gonna do?"
She looks to me and Hazel. I shrug. Hazels foot taps mine under the table.
"See if I was straight, it would be so much easier. Id be like, 'hey boys! Come and give momma a kiss!"
"Ew"
"Momma?"
We all wince and she rolls her eyes.
"I'm just saying, I'm not going to this dance alone. So yous can just go without me"
"Come on PJ, you can't give up"
Josie taps her arm, attempting encouragement.
"Gee, thanks Josie, real helpful"
The sarcasm drips from the sentence.-after school-
There's a knock on my bedroom door and I turn in my chair towards it.
"Come in"
PJ slides in and shuts the door behind her.
We never really hang out one-on-one. She takes a seat on my bed.
"Smells we-
"It's a candle. Lavender"
"Oh-
She nods slowly.
"Nice"
We are both silent and I clear my throat.
"Did you need something or..
"Oh yeah! Um, so I've been thinking a lot about the dance and you know all that relationship-ee stuff"
I nod.
"I just, I'm thinking of doing something a bit, I don't know, out there"
My eyebrows raise in confusion.
"Before I do though, I have to check something with you"
"Okay.....
"Remember the football game"
"Whic-
"With the blood and the fighting"
"Yeah"
"And you got all pissed after"
I look down at the floor.
"Yup"
She adjusts her position. I think this is the first time I've actually seen her uncomfortable.
"Why? I mean like why did that happen? Is it Hazel? Are you two like, a thing? You aren't gay right?"
That familiar panic sets in and I whip my head up to face her and shake my head definitively.
"No, no"
Hazel flashes into my mind and my eyes begin to sting. Knowing I'm doing something awful, but not being able to stop makes me want to smack myself. She doesn't deserve this.
"Okay good. I mean, not good, like it's totally cool if you are-
And yet I still can't admit it?
"It's just- Hazel and I kissed, at the game. And I'm not gonna lie, it was pretty hot"
My eyes widen.
Oh. No.
"And I was thinking I might ask her to the dance. Is that crazy? I mean like, it's Hazel right? She's so different from Brittney...
My fists ball up tightly and I squeeze. I squeeze until my knuckles are white and my palms are stinging in pain.
"What do you think?"
Fuck no! No! No! No!..
"I don't think that's such a good idea"
"Why not?"
Why not?!!!
"I mean, you guys are friends. Do you really want to ruin that?"
"We aren't even that close"
She shrugs and I ball my fists even tighter.
But we are.
She hops off of my bed and looks around my room.
"This place looks like an old gay man decorated it"
"I-
She walks to the door.
"I'll let you know how it goes"
"PJ no. PJ, that's not a good-
I launch out of my chair to stop her.
"Bye!!"
She slams the door and I collapse into my chair and cradle my head in my hands.
"Shit"
