My vision is fuzzy and it begins to fall. Down down down..... to the floor. And I stay there until I drift off to the sound of panicked voices, shaking of my body and a siren slipping in from outside.
-time skip-
"She's going to have to rest for a while"
"How long"
"Usually symptoms of alcohol poison will be relieved within a week"
"She has schoo...
The voices drift in and then back out as I blink slowly. Painfully slowly. It's all I can muster. There's a white light glaring into my eyes and a pain in my hand. I lift it up to look at it but I can't see anything. Colourful dots of light obscure my vision. I feel a hand on my shoulder now and someone pulls my hand back flat on the bed.
"Sweetie"
A figure looms over me. Her lavender smell enters my nose and I breathe in the familiarity. As the scent gets further up my nose the panic begins to set in and I blink more frantically. The image gets clearer. I can see her face now and I frantically clench the bedsheets.
"M-mom?"-time skip-
"So we flew up this morning. You should have seen this lady on our flight. She had these two cats, didn't she Peter-
My mom has retreated to the armchair next to my bed now and my dad to the one next to her. She's holding a mug of tea and my dads crossing his legs, ignoring her entirely as he reads the paper. He couldn't care less about the flight or the lady. She and I both know it. They've propped me up and the doctors have explained my alcohol poisoning to them. Multiple times. My mom had a list of questions prepared when she arrived. They still haven't asked me why I was that drunk or why my friends and I spent homecoming in the bathroom.
"I mean who brings a cat on a flight! It was ridiculous, utterly ridiculous!"
I yawn and she tilts her head.
"Poor baby"
"Mommm"
She places the mug on the side table and comes to fluff my pillows again.
"I'm fine, just- leave it-
"Leave her alone Alice!"
My dad slams the paper on his leg and we both flinch. That's the first thing he has said since he entered the room. Her hands freeze on the pillow and I gulp.
"For god sake. Sit down."
She clears her throat, flatten out her skirt and returns to her seat obediently.
He lifts his paper back up and continues reading.
I've noticed something. Or maybe I'm just crazy. But he hasn't looked at me. Not once. My mom hasn't stopped. She's muttering a few things now about my homecoming date. "Where is he? Should we call and let him know you're okay?"
"I don't want to worry him"
"Your aunt and PJ are coming over by the way"
I roll my eyes and slouch into the pillow.
"And a few of your friends"
I look back up.
"Haz-
I stop myself and nod. There's a knock at the door. My eyes widen and I sit up straight. I can see through the windows of the room. There's a person at the door. Wavy black hair, flowers in hand....
"I'll get it"
I begin to get out of the bed but my mom grips my legs over the sheets and stops me.
"You stay there"
Oh no. Please no. She walks to the door and twists the handle. I pray to god that Hazel has forgotten my existence or hates my guts after yesterday. Please please please please...the door opens slowly.
"Hello"
My mum is polite but I can see her look whoever it is up and down. A hand reaches out In between them and I could tell those rings from a mile away.
"Hi, I'm Hazel!"
