The next day came faster than I thought it would. I know the others are disappointed in me for not agreeing to go get drinks with them as a way to build chemistry but I can't bring myself to care. I know it may sound harsh but I can't risk getting close to any of them.

I don't know them. I don't know what their intentions are and I can't trust that they're good people because of how they act at work. Iruka's an exception and I have no choice but to talk with Madara and Obito since their my bosses. I don't owe the others that obligation.

I just need to go to work, do my job, stay low, and collect my paycheck so I can provide for myself.

I came into work the same time as yesterday, made my way to the elevator, and towards Mr. Uchiha's office once the doors slid open. A few people turned their heads towards me once I came in but I paid them no mind. My eyes were focused on my destination only.

"Ah Kakashi right on time". Mr. Uchiha said as he stood up from his desk.

"Sir"?

"Follow me".

I did as told and followed him as he walked out of the office and over to the coffee machine. What I didn't expect was to see people from different parts of the building standing in the open part of the office crowding every inch of it.

It's ok, it's ok, just breathe. They're not here for you

"By now most if not all of you have noticed Stone, Hibiki, Shisui, Itachi and I's father weren't here yesterday that's because he's decided the time for him to retire has come and named me new CEO. Going forward I plan to continue running the business in the successful manner my father did for so many years.

I'm open to listening to any new ideas or policies that you may have but as of right now, business is the same as usual with the same rules in place. If it isn't broke don't fix it". 

One by one everyone left into the elevator or took the stairs back to their designated areas. The only ones that stayed were the ones that belonged to the department I worked in, Obito headed back to his office and I followed as everyone went back to work.

"Well, that went easier than I thought". Obito said as he sat at his desk. I nodded my head and started on my work.

"Any questions you have for me"?

"No, the work is pretty straightforward and easy. Is there anything I can get for you while you start on your assignments"? "Not at the moment but I'll be sure to let you know". I nodded my head and gave my computer screen my full attention.

"How's it going"? Mr. Uchiha asked as his gaze remained glued to his computer.

"Everythings fine on my end".

"Good".

It was true. So far the surprise announcement was the only thing that drew me off guard. I knew Mr. Uchiha would have to make the announcement at some point I just thought there would be a heads-up first but no. It was obvious to me that things moved fast here.

Madraa had only been gone for a day and almost immediately everyone knew something was wrong. It was a little odd Madara himself didn't announce his retirement personally but that wasn't any of my business to get into. What's done was done and I'm only here to do a job and get a paycheck.

It has to stay that way

I went over the data for the device I was working on making sure it was right. The data programming was correct and I just needed to make sure that its information bank would always be right. The last thing I wanted was for a doctor to need it and the device to give him or her the wrong kind of information.

For this, I did extensive research on every type of Doctor I could find so I could personally program the information data into it and know it'll be accurate. This is my first project and I needed to get it right. I couldn't let down Mr. Uchiha especially when it was obvious he was letting me work on the project I wanted to instead of assigning me one. 

I needed this to be perfect. I needed them to know I was a valuable asset to them.

You will never amount to anything you stupid, stupid boy!

Not now, don't think about her right now Kakashi, just focus on your work.

"I know you've just started on it but have you come up with a name for it yet"?

"Not yet Sir. I was wondering if it would be ok to paint it with your family's colors"? "Hm, any particular reason as to why"? "I know I could have it painted whatever color I'd like but this device will belong to Uchiha tech so I thought it would make sense if it was painted with Uchiha colors".

"I don't have a problem with it".

"Understood sir".
