Chapter 11: leaving

I woke up on a couch. which made me very confused because I've been waking up outside for what seems like forever. I jumped up and fell onto my butt on the floor. Carl shot up.

"you okay?" he asked.
"yeah, I just forgot that we were here" I said and got back up. he laughed. I laughed too. I heard ruffling in the corner. I looked over and saw Judith playing with her feet and sticking them in her mouth. I smiled and picked her up out of the pack and play that Rick found on the run yesterday.

"good morning baby" I said in a baby voice she smiled. "how are you?" I rocked her back and forward on my hips and danced with her. she just smiled and laughed like she was having the best time of her little life. I smiled and kissed her forehead.
"I'll go get a bottle" Carl said. I nodded and smiled but didn't look at him. I just kept playing with Judith. Carl closed the door behind him and I quickly changed her. I walked out of the room to see everyone. they all looked pissed off.

"what's going on?" I asked. "where's Maggie and Glenn and Abraham, Rosita, Eugene?"
"they left" Rick said "for DC"
"without us?" I said and handed off Judith to Sam.
"yes" Rick said "this morning"
"we have to find them" I said.

I heard rumbling outside. I looked out the window. Maggie jumped out of a fire truck.

"they're back!" I said. they all carried Eugene. "Eugene is hurt" I ran outside to help them.

"where were you?" I asked.
"Abraham want red to leave for DC" maggie said "impatient prick" she mumbled so only we could hear.
"why didn't you wake up the rest of us?" I said with rage.
"I didn't have enough time to pull along a bunch of tired pussies" Abraham said. it took all my might not to punch him in the face right this moment. I would have, but I knew I wouldn't win.
"fuck off" I mumbled and opened the church doors.

"what happened to him?" Sam asked.
"Abraham punched him in the face" Glenn said.
"because he's a lying prick" Abraham said "he doesn't know the cure. he was only using me for protection"

"Maggie" my dad came into the room "we know where Beth is"
"w-where is she?" she shot up from her spot on the floor and ran up him.
"in a hospital" he said
"where's Carol?" I asked and forgot about Eugene.
"in the hospital" he said
"you left her there?!" I was outraged. Carol was like my mother.
"I didn't want to!" he yelled "she was hit by a car! they took her away because it was one of their's. they are taking care of her"
"we have to go and get them" Maggie said "we can take care of Carol"
"we need cars" Rick said "Daryl, do you remember where the hospital is?"
"obviously" he said.

"we need to leave" Maggie said.
"no" Rick said. we looked at him like he was insane. we need to find Beth and Carol.

"there's going to be an attack" Rick said "there are marks on the church from Garrett. we have to finish what we started. I already have a plan. and if it doesn't happen tonight we will leave"

Rick started going over the plan while we all sat down in the pews. Carl's arm around my waist like always. I could feel eyes burning into my head. I looked around. Gabriel was looking at me and Carl. like always. I shot him a look of annoyance. he turned away.

"what's the matter?" Carl whispered.
"Gabriel" I whispered. "he's always looking at us"
"is he jealous or something?" he asked.
"I don't know" I said. "I just don't like it" Carl made evil eyes at the back of Gabriel's head for the rest of the time that Rick was talking. I would be helping but Carl, Judith, and Sam would be under the church floorboards.

"are you sure that Ju will be okay under there?" I asked Rick.
"we will make sure that she's asleep before we head out. but keep a hand over her mouth the whole time, Carl. make sure she can breathe through her nose" he said. Carl nodded.

Rick was done explaining and people started getting ready.

"you ready?" I felt arms snake around my waist as I was filling my gun. I nuzzled into his and kissed his cheek.
"ready, but scared" I said. I put my gun in my belt mad turned around. I laced my fingers behind his neck and twisted his baby hairs with my thumbs. his hands rested on my hips and our noses touched. I leaned against the wall.
"you don't have to be scared" he said. "my dad choose you to fight because you aren't afraid of anything. you are one of the bravest people I know"
"just promise to keep Judith safe" I said "she's so young"
"we're young too" he said "if you think about it, we got at least 70 Christmases left" we both laughed.
"hopefully" I whispered and kissed him. he kissed me back. it wasn't rushed or deep but it was filled with love.

"it's time" Rick said. Carl had already Judith under the floor boards.
