Ji-ah managed well on her first day. Other than doing actual work, she was able to walk around the palace and marvel at different rooms. She stumbled into Seo-yeon a few times, waving and sending a smile to her.
Today, she was tasked to rearrange the books in the library. Ji-ah wore a simple housekeeping uniform and waited outside the grand library as Mrs. Kim led her inside.
Ji-ah gaped when she entered, as she took in the sight before her. The bookshelves stretched to meet the towering ceiling, row among rows that seemed to go on forever. The smell of books and paper filled the room, along with some other unidentified fragrance.
"Just do this section today, no need to rush." Mrs. Kim explained as she gestured to the tall bookshelves.
"If you need anything, just ask Seo-yeon." Mrs. Kim turned to Seo-yeon, who was going to help her. It was a relief that she didn't have to do this massive task alone.
Ji-ah began to remove the books from the shelves and place them in the book cart, along with Seo-yeon.
"Why did you want to work here?" Seo-yeon suddenly asked with a curious tone.
"Well..actually, I was a guest at the party." Ji-ah said, "I was looking for a job, and I just happened to stumble into Mrs. Kim."
"Oh, I see." Seo-yeon nodded in understanding. "This place is nice isn't it?" She smiled as she worked from the other side of the bookshelf.
"Yeah, this mansion is nothing like I've ever seen," Ji-ah replied, her eyes wandering across the grandeur of the library.
"That's why I wanted to work here too." Seo-yeon chuckled.
Ji-ah remembered the young woman she saw during the party, hurrying to leave the place.
"Do you know about the girl who quit?" Ji-ah asked, she couldn't contain her curiosity.
Seo-yeon paused, her expression thoughtful. "I heard she quit because of a personal reason."
Ji-ah thought there was more. She remembered the young woman's panicked voice.
"Anyway, have you met the host?" Seo-yeon asked
"Um no. Who is the host?" Ji-ah said.
"He's the prince here. He looks unreal. I've seen him only a few times even though I worked here for 4 months." Seo-yeon smiled. "He's pretty reserved, and likes to be alone I guess."
"Oh, so he lives alone in this mansion? Apart from the staff." Ji-ah said.
"I think so, I heard that he had 6 brothers, but I haven't seen them before," Seo-yeon said.
After more chatting and arranging, the sun has started to set outside, casting a soft, orange hue over the rows of bookshelves. They finished arranging the books and gathered up the tools.
