The next day dawned and the BAU team was back in full action. While they were working on a new case, Penelope couldn't help but joke with JJ about the events of the previous night. Every chance she got, she glanced at JJ with amusement and couldn't help but grin.
"Who knew our dear Dr. Reid could be so romantic?" Penelope teased with a wide smile.
JJ rolled her eyes, but couldn't hide a small smile of her own. "Yes, it was really a surprise."
"And you didn't notice at all? How did you do that?" Penelope asked with theatrical surprise.
JJ sighed. "It's not like I think about things like that all the time, Penelope. We're a team, and our work comes first."
Penelope laughed mischievously. "Oh, I see. So you were too busy chasing criminals to notice that the smart doctor adored you?"
JJ crossed his arms over his chest and gave Penelope an amused look. "You're really making this a lot of fun, aren't you?"
"Of course, Sugar. You know me," Penelope replied with a wink.
As the day progressed, the teasing banter between the two women continued. Every time they had a free moment, Penelope couldn't help but make fun of Spencer's crush on JJ. But beneath all the jokes and teasing, JJ sensed that Penelope was truly happy for her, in her own loving way.
As the day neared its end and the team made their way back to the motel, the mood was cheerful. The events of the last few days had brought a new dynamic to the group, and as the work continued, they had also found space for human feelings and relationships.
As they sat in the motel room, preparing for the next day, JJ couldn't help but have a small smile on his face. Maybe changes and new opportunities weren't as scary as they initially seemed. And while Penelope still teased every now and then, JJ knew that her friendship and support were irreplaceable.
