Kaitlin picked me up around nine the next day. I was proud of myself because I didn't look ratchet. I was wearing a pair of skinny jeans, a blue tee shirt with a gecko on it, and my converse. I pulled on my leather jacket and was out the door.
"Good morning!" Kaitlin greeted.
She passed me a coffee from Jitters.
"Thanks."
"I figured you'd need a pick me up." She said.
I slid into the passenger seat and sipped my coffee. Kaitlin asked if I had any dreams and we talked about them. They weren't visions, considering they involved "Harry Potter" and unicorns. But, she still listened.
When we got to S.T.A.R Labs Cisco was already there monitoring Barry on a treadmill.
"Good, Chandler's here." Said Cisco, "Barry, show her what you can do."
Barry sped up on the treadmill. He went so fast he became a blur.
"You're the Flash!" I yelled. "How is this possible?!"
Kaitlin explained to me what happened the night I got into the accident. She explained how there were more people like me and Barry, but they were bad. She said that they spent the past year trying to round them up and their complications with Dr. Wells being the reverse Flash.
"So, how do I come in?" I asked. "are you going to put me in a containment cell?"
"No, we're going to train you to harness your ability to help us find other good and bad meta humans." Said Kaitlin.
"We need to come up with a name for you." Said Cisco.
"He names all the meta humans." Explained Barry.
"What about The Hawk." He said.
Me, Kaitlin and Barry all practically screamed "no!"
"Fine I'll come up with something else..." He mumbled.
With that, Barry went back to the treadmill and Kaitlin took me back to the main lab area.
"Is it okay if I ask you a couple of questions to help me understand what to do to begin your training process?" She asked.
I shook my head.
"How long have you been having these visions?"
"A week or two after the explosion, but I've been having bad dreams that came true since I was thirteen."
"What do you mean by came true?"
"I would have a bad dream about like say, a murder and that murder would show up in the news."
She nodded. "We're there pauses between the dreams or were they continued?"
"They stopped when I went to college." I was getting scared that she'd ask about Conner.
"I have one last question, how did you get your ability?"
There it was. She saw my expression. "It's okay if you don't want to say anything."
"No it's fine. I had to talk about it at some point. I was on my way to a concert with my friends and lighting struck fifty feet down the road. We thought we made it but another bolt struck the car. My friend Brooke and I made it out, but my friend Conner..." I choked up.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to-" Kaitlin started.
"Chandler, are you okay?" Barry ran over. "Hey, if tears fall they fall."
Conner used to say that to me all the time. I started sobbing. In my head I was screaming at myself to stop, because I barely knew these people, but I couldn't stop. Seconds later I was on the roof of the CCPD building, Barry at my side.
"Sorry, I thought you needed a breather. This is the best place to think." He said.
"I don't want to think." I said, "my best friend is dead and I can barely keep it together as is. Thinking about it is the last thing I want to do."
"I'm sorry." He said.
"It wasn't your fault." I said, "But it's funny isn't it? If we had turned left instead of right, gotten Jitters instead of Big Belly Burger, Conner would still be standing here today and I would be normal."
"I don't think the lighting works like that." He said.
I whirled around, "It's just lightning, okay! It didn't choose us, it doesn't work in any certain way. We were just in the wrong place at the wrong time."
Barry looked shocked, then anger washed over his face.
"You don't think I don't know that pain, that denial My mother was killed by Dr. Wells when I was eleven and my father was blamed for it, I had to go live with the girl I had a crush on, I was going to tell her how I felt, then I got struck by lightning and was in a coma for nine months, and when I went to tell her she got a boyfriend." He said, "then Dr. Wells kidnapped him, and told him he was his great great grand father or whatever, so then Eddie shot himself. Iris admitted her feelings for me but rejected me again. So, yeah, I think I know pain."
"I'm sorry." I said, "My dad got into a pane crash and was put in a coma when I was thirteen and he's still in it."
"I'm sorry." He said.
He came over and hugged me. It took me by surprise at first, but then I hugged back. When he pulled away he looked in to my eyes.
"Any time you need a friend just call." He said.
I just met Barry Allen and he already treated me like I'd known him for years. Maybe Conner was up there somewhere, and he sent me a miracle.
