JULY 8
[
Chan woke early, with the stabbing ache of a night spent on the couch in his neck and back, and with a beautiful sunrise out the sliding glass door to his left. Also to his left, he realized a moment later, was an empty space.
Minho's absence wasn't entirely surprising— he'd still been awake when Chan drifted off last night. He probably preferred the privacy of a bedroom to fall asleep in, and therefore left the couch to do so at some point when he got overly sleepy.
With a bit of stretching and hushed groaning due to morning aches, and of snapping photos of Seungin, who were so sweetly entangled (with Jeongin leaned against Seungmin's chest; his head cradled in the crook of the elbow Seungmin had against his one propped knee), Chan left the communal nap to start scrounging up some breakfast. They'd all be hungry when they woke up.
With no trees to obscure its path, the sun was shining bright, its rays reaching right through the glass door, within minutes of peeking over the surface of the water— the dramatic, warm sunrise tones disappearing quickly to give way to nothing but yellow and blue, so it looked almost like midday just by the time Chan unpacked the pancake mix. Perhaps the sudden bright light is what caused Changbin— now the closest to the door— to stir and leave the couch; to pad into the kitchen.
"Morning, roomie," Chan greeted, just over a whisper.
Changbin replied with an equally cordial incoherent grumble. He first went for one of the bottles of water in the fridge, taking a long sip as he assessed the rest of the contents inside. "I'll make the eggs."
When they arrived yesterday, they'd barely stayed inside the beach house long enough to see all the rooms, but at least they'd emptied the cooler and stocked the fridge before they hit the beach for the following 12 or so hours. In the end, the bedrooms never got divvied out, but clearly that wasn't much of a problem.
Yawning, Felix sat at one of the stools at the island's breakfast bar, at some point, still looking half-asleep. Maybe three-quarters-asleep. He rested his cheek on the counter and let his eyes close again.
Changbin chuckled, slipping into the stool next to him; setting his water bottle and its lid down in favor of patting the boy's back.
While he was occupied with cracking the next batch of eggs, Hyunjin got up and took the seat, smoothly draping his arm over Felix's shoulders.
Changbin turned his head at the noise, and furrowed his eyebrows. "Hey, Hyunjin, I was sitting there."
Hyunjin shrugged, daintily placing the cap onto the bottle in front of him and pushing it away. "Big deal; there's a chair right there." He gestured to the side (where two more stools were lined up at the overhang of the island) flippantly.
