JULY 10
[
Chan told Felix to sleep it off; try to come back to it with a fresh mind in the morning. Overthinking it wouldn't help.
It'd be so great if he were able to take his own advice, don't you think? Instead, while Felix slept peacefully on his chest all through the night and into the morning, Chan stayed awake, obsessing, calculating, theorizing as he listened to the sound of a late night thunderstorm that had been intensifying as the hours passed. Trying to find the answers and solutions; to figure out exactly what he would do to fix this very messy situation.
It turns out his own advice was right: at least, with a sleep-deprived, stressed-out brain, overthinking did him no good. He'd come up with zero solid solutions by the time Felix woke (The only helpful thing that came out of the whole night of thinking was Chan realizing he'd probably have to take the extra day off for Felix's sake— and thankfully his boss was kind enough to allow it short-notice.) Additionally, overthinking certainly did not prepare him for the absolute bomb Felix dropped on him when that happened.
"Morning, Lix." Chan smiled as a messy halo of soft blond hair left his chest. Through the open windows, the steady patter of rain was fully present. Though it was late into the morning, now, it was still dim due to the storm. Perhaps that's why Felix was so slow to wake. "You feeling any better?"
Felix gave a throaty hum, then a yawn. "I guess so."
Chan started to get up, despite the screaming, shouting, hollering going on in his drained muscles. Despite a familiar, sharp ache blooming within his chest, he went on to offer, "How about I make some breakfast? That might help."
Heart palpitations had been slowly coming back to him. They hadn't been too bad recently, just a little spike in heart rate here and there, and it was over. Today, it was much worse. Honestly, it was so pathetic that just moving to sit up got his chest seizing.
Felix's small, delicate hand closed around his wrist (with its nails painted a chipped yellow that was ironically bright and happy), pulling him back. "Hyung..."
Something about that look in Felix's eyes... it freaked Chan out a bit. Out of all the hundreds of times Felix had locked eyes with Chan over the years, he had never, not once looked at Chan like that.
"I don't think I like Hyunjin," he breathed.
"Oh—" Chan started. But he didn't get to say any more.
"I think... I like you." Felix's eyes were shiny as they remained fixed on Chan. And they were timid as he asked, "Can I, um, kiss you?"
Oh boy. With a hitching breath, Chan sat back down, by Felix's side. He smiled slightly, sadly, perhaps even... scaredly. And he said, "No." He rested his hand over Felix's as the younger boy's chest caved. "I don't think you really want to, Lixie."
