Part Three

The Visit

"Is she all right, doctor?" Matt asked the doctor for the nth time since he started examining me.

"Oppføre (Behave) child! You are distracting me. Stick your tongue out, miss." the doctor ordered.

I stuck out my tongue and he used a flashlight to examine my tonsils.

"So far so good. Let me see your legs child." I slowly raised my trousers which revealed the bruises, cuts, and bandages.

"Matt here extracted a huge chunk of glass from your leg. Does it sting when you move around?" the doctor asked.

I nodded and let out a sigh.

"Do not fear child, the pain is temporary but I fear that it will leave a scar," the doctor said as he examined my legs.

The scar was the least of my worries, I wanted to regain my memories back.

"What about my memories? Is there any chance to bring it back?" I asked.

"Yes and no. If you can remember some of the things then your memory can return. But if you really can't, then it's a no. Anyways, I shall prescribe you painkillers and antibiotics for your deep wounds. Don't take too much," the doctor advised.

The doctor handed Matt the pills and new bandages.

We both thanked the doctor before he left.

"Why the long face, Evy? He said that there's a fifty-fifty chance that you can regain your memories, " Matt noticed me pouting.

"I want to know who I am, Matt. I want to know what happened to me and how I ended here. I don't even know why I lived that helvete (hell)!" I exclaimed.

Matt's eyes widened in surprise.

"You said a foreign word! Do you know what that is?" Matt asked as he sat beside me on the bed and grabbed my hands.

"I can't remember," I shyly said.

"But there wasn't any plane or helicopter debris near the area where I found you," Matt wondered.

I looked at my hands, Matt was still holding them.

His hands were warm and rough, an indication that he was indeed a hard worker.

"How about we go to the site where you found me?" I suggested.

I admit I was scared of regaining my memories back, Matt might be surprised at what kind of a person back then I am now.

"Before we leave, how about you take a shower and wear this? I bought a lot of stuff for you. I also bought clean underwear. I hope you like it," Matt blushed as he handed the brown bag to me.

"It's perfect. Thank you so much."

I made my way to the bathroom and removed my clothes.

I turned on the shower and enjoyed the cool droplets of water hitting my skin.

I may not remember who I am right now but I know was something big waiting for me.

—------------------------------------

"This is where I found you," Matt said as he led me to a woody area near the shore.

The area was quiet despite being near a tunnel.

"Vehicles rarely pass by this area, the tunnel was said to be unsafe by the government," Matt added.

"The exit of the tunnel is narrow, one wrong turn and you can easily swerve your way in a lamppost or tree," Matt explained.

Something doesn't add up. I immediately thought.

I scanned the area and looked at the dried pool of blood in the area. There were small traces of blood that led to the highway.

"You were unconscious and I immediately brought you home," Matt said.

My head started to hurt and then I finally started to remember something.

"We're going too fast! We might get into an accident!" a familiar voice screamed.

It was a woman close to my age who was screaming.

There were three of us in the car, the woman, the driver, and me.

"Shit shit! The brakes aren't working!" the voice echoed again.

There was a loud crash of the car hitting a lampost on the street.

I snapped out of my reverie and looked at Matt who was clearly concerned with my well-being.

"Are you alright, Evy?" Matt asked as he placed a hand on my shoulder.

I slowly nodded and pointed to the highway.

"I think I remembered something. I was in an accident over there." I said.

Matt gave me a puzzled look and he grabbed my hand and led me towards the highway.

I was caught off guard when Matt grabbed my hand. I never really expected him to hold my hand. I was really surprised.

I gulped and cleared my throat as we approached the tunnel.

There were lots of police tapes that covered the entrance of the tunnel and there was a broken lamppost which caught our attention.

"I think it happened here," Matt said as he examined the area.

"Any more memories coming back?" he continued.

I shook my head.

"Hey, it's alright. At least you're starting to remember things," Matt encouraged.

There it was again, those killer dimples.

I felt a slight uneasiness crept up my spine.

I was feeling dizzy again.

"Are you alright?" Matt's voice was becoming distorted.

"Evy! Evy stay with me!"

I didn't know what happened next except everything turned black.
