Part Four

The Doctor

Mathias Stoltenberg

"She will be alright, lad. Although it would be better to let her retain her memories naturally. Triggering the events is the reason for her fainting," the doctor said.

It was stupid of me to think that bringing her back to the place where I found her would do her good.

She was able to regain some of her memories but honestly, I never expected her to be in a traumatic situation. I did know but I never really thought of it that much.

"Mathias, this woman is a different class from us," the doctor said.

"What do you mean doctor?" I asked and gave him a puzzled look.

"I found this when I was cleaning her up," the doctor said as he handed me a necklace.

I looked at the necklace and examined it. It had a coat of arms engraved on it.

Only royals or someone with titles have the right to bear the coat of arms.

I looked at Evy's sleeping face. She was deep in slumber and looked peaceful.

"If she was royalty then someone would have been looking for her right now," I said.

The doctor let out a sigh and ran his fingers through his hair.

"You know we share the sad age of thirty, Matt. But I know damn well that there will be trouble. This woman is clearly someone we should not mess with. You don't want to be involved in something messy," the doctor said before letting out a sigh.

"Watch your mouth, Theodoro Austad! I will not hesitate to puncture your chest with my harpoon," I said in a low tone.

The doctor let out a hearty laugh and patted me on the back.

"Relax, Matt. I'm saying this as a friend. Be careful out there, this woman will surely change your world. I must now take my leave, the people at the hospital need me," Theodoro said before waving goodbye.

The audacity of that man!

But deep inside my mind, I know he was right. This woman is still shrouded in mystery. I don't know who she was.

The engraving on the necklace made me want to know more about her. But dread fills me up as I grow close to knowing the truth.

Who are you, Evy?

Theodoro Austad

I let out a chuckle as I remembered how my friend was being overprotective over the woman he saved a couple of days ago. Mathias is clearly in love with this woman. I never really understood the concept of love not since...

I cleared my throat, this was no time to remember her.

I was driving on my way to the hospital.

There was an accident a few days ago in which three people were involved. Two were in the hospital, one passed away and the other one was recovering. The third person was nowhere to be found. Authorities were still looking for the third person.

I don't know if Evy is the third person that the authorities were looking for but it's up to Mathias at this point.

When Mathias phoned me in the middle of the night, he sounded scared and I immediately rushed to his residence.

He already administered basic first aid to the young woman that he rescued. She was wearing a beautiful wedding dress but it was soiled with dirt, twigs, and leaves. Her features were ethereal and she looked like a foreigner.

Maybe she's a runaway bride of some sort.

Mathias has been my friend since we were kids. We went to the same college and we were roommates. I was studying medicine and he was studying culinary. He was forced to drop out of his school to fend for himself and to pay his parents' funeral fees. His sister was an idiot for running away with her lover in some faraway country.

"Mathias Stoltenberg, what have you gotten yourself into?" I muttered as I took a left turn.

Tønsberg was a humble town that was near an ocean. The Tønsberg fjord was breathtakingly beautiful, something that I always visited whenever I went to Matt's house. I could never imagine someone leaving this place.

I almost did five years ago.

I finally arrived at the hospital after a twenty-minute drive, the nurse handed me my clipboard which contained records and documents on the patient.

"Olivia Herrera huh," I muttered as I read her file.

Two broken ribs, a fractured left leg, sprained wrist, and lots of bruises on her. She was probably sitting beside the driver. She was still unconscious but her condition was stable.

She had no relatives who visited her and she wasn't even reported as missing by anyone. The police questioned me yesterday but they all seem fixated on looking for the third person in the car who was missing.

"Olivia Herrera just woke up," a nurse informed me.

I quickly ran to the patient's ward and burst open the door.

"My butt hurts, I probably look like shit right now," was the first thing that the patient said.

"Are you feeling alright Miss?" the nurse asked. "Aside from a couple of broken bones? I'm as tough as nails. Is my employer also confined in this hospital? What's her room number? Can I go see her?" Olivia asked.

The nurse gave her a puzzled look.

"The driver died before he was delivered to the hospital and there were only the two of you in the car. When the police conducted an investigation, they found out that there was a third person in the Honda with you. Unfortunately, you were the only one brought to the hospital," I piped in.

The woman cursed in a foreign language.

"Pardon me?" I asked.

"The Marchioness is missing! I need to find her! Her cousin is responsible for all of this, please help me!" she exclaimed.

My eyes widened in surprise.

Olivia was throwing a fit and was trying to remove the IV needle. The nurses quickly restrained her and injected something which made her calm down and fall asleep.

"Make sure Olivia Herrera is well-guarded. Do not let anyone come inside her room. Whatever you hear in this room stays here. Call me later when she's awake," I told the nurses.

The nurses look at each other in confusion.

"This woman is connected to a royal family abroad, once word goes out that the royal is missing, their homeland won't hesitate to start a war on our country. I am sure that you wouldn't risk our sovereign for the sake of afternoon gossip," the nurses quickly nodded and escorted themselves out of Olivia's room.

I glanced at Olivia before rubbing my temples.

If word gets out that Olivia Herrera is awake, the media would be flocking to the hospital.

Whatever mess that Mathias has put himself into, it's going to change him for better or for worse.
