The Move And The Fight

TK ended up getting to his dad's house about 30 minutes late because of a flight delay but he had to admit, he didn't wanna be here. It's not that he didn't want to live with his dad, hell he's missed his dad a lot lately, but it's that he didn't wanna be so far from Cody. Later that night he was laying in bed staring at the ceiling wondering if his kid was safe and happy. He was so caught up in his own thoughts that he didn't hear Owen walk into the room and sit down on the bed next to his feet.

"Hey kiddo, I know you are pretty low right now but you need to pull yourself out of this or you won't be able to see him again. You know that. Now you get some sleep, you have a big day tomorrow."

The next day TK was walking to the fire station for his day but got lost on the way thanks to the GPS until a honey sweet voice spoke into his ear.

"I'm guessing you're lost?"

He turned towards the voice and was met with the most handsome man he has probably ever seen. "Yeah I am. I'm trying to get to the 126 fire station but I must have taken a wrong turn somewhere." While answering the question TK was shamelessly checking the stranger out.

"About 2 blocks ago, did you take a right?"

"Yeah I did. No offense but why does the turn I took matter right now?" The man let out a chuckle that sent a pleasant shiver down TK's spine. "Left is in the direction of the fire station, right is in the direction of the police station." He instantly understood what had happened to get him where he was at that moment.

"Don't beat yourself up over it, it happens to all newcomers. I'm Carlos by the way." TK raised his eyebrows questioningly when Carlos called him a newcomer.

"How did you know I'm a newcomer? I could just as well be from here." He once again let out a chuckle that had the firefighter pleasantly shivering in the Texas heat. "I was born and raised here, I know everybody and yet I've never met you before." He blushed when the Texan ran his eyes over TK's body, checking him out as well.

"How do you know you didn't forget about it? I'm TK by the way."

"I would never forget such a handsome face TK." The compliment has TK blushing like a ripe strawberry. "Well I should probably go. Thank you for the directions and it was nice meeting you Carlos." When he got to the fire station the happiness he felt a few minutes before had disappeared and he was numb again.

It was about a year before he saw Cody again and he was glad that he was finally in a better mental state than he had been in in his entire life. TK had already told the team about what happened in New York including that he was in the middle of a divorce. Carlos was aware of it all as well. The 126 was called to the scene of a hit and run with an injured family. A truck ran a red light and hit a Mercedes then fled the scene, the Mercedes had a family of 3 in it, which was where the 126 came in.

When they got to the scene TK immediately recognized the car as Alex's car which made his heart race in all the worse ways. All of his worst fears came true when they saw Cody sitting in an ambulance getting checked out for injuries. TK looked at his father for permission to approach Cody And the Captain gave him the all clear to do it. He walked over to the ambulance while calling Cody's name to get his attention. As soon as TK got to the kid he wrapped him in a tight hug which was fully reciprocated by the 2 year old boy. The hug was interrupted by Alex's loud, angry voice screaming at TK which scared the father-son duo out of the hug.

"What the hell are you doing near my son you jackass, you know you are not supposed to be anywhere near him!!"

TK noticed the protective looks that the 126 were giving Alex for talking to TK like that which made him smile. "3 things Alex, 1 he isn't just your son he's mine as well, don't forget that. 2 There isn't a law saying I can't see him now that the thing that made me an unfit parent is fixed, so I can see him. And 3, I would very much appreciate it if you stop using language like that in front of our 2-year-old son Alex." TK saw a familiar look of violent anger in Alex's eyes that scared him more than he'd like to admit.
