A/n: There is probably going to be a trigger warning at some point in this chapter.
As I was grabbing some wood for tonight's fire, I could feel two pairs of eyes watching me. But I was deliberately ignoring it. Also a time recap, it's been a couple of weeks since . . . everything, I'll be checking and hopefully removing Nyima and my stiches tomorrow. But I'll just focus more on collecting the wood for the fire.
Once I was done collecting wood I made my why over to where the fire was as I put some more wood on it, staring into the crackling flames.
The two females could hear the echoes of crackling fire from where the missiles that were fired had hit in the distance.
I shook my head trying to rid myself of that dreadful memory as I looked over to my two companions. Only to catch the unmistakable stench of blood from the Compy that Blue had killed earlier.
As Phoenix was looking for Echo, she suddenly caught the unmistakable stench of iron in the air, only for someone she cares for scent to be mixed in with it, making her soul fill with absolute horror.
I shook my head again, just managing to stop myself from growling in announce as the smell should not be causing me to have these flashbacks. But then again certain things that your senses can pick up can cause flashbacks.
I then watched as Blue had used his tail to knock a stone into a bush, which caused Nyima to look towards the bush. Only for when her attention was drawn away from her food, which consisted of fruit and a couple slices of frozen pizza we had heated up over the fire. For Blue to take the chance and steal one of the slices of pizza, resulting in the Blue haired girl to turn her attention towards the male. "Blue, you cheater," Nyima told him causing Blue to laugh, "maybe if you had been paying attention to your food instead of the bush, you wouldn't have lost a slice." I shook my head in slight amusement of the two and how this is exactly how Blue would be with Echo. That just caused me a fond yet weak smile to tug at my lips. "You two are goofballs," I told the pair only to get two mock offended looks in response before Nyima responded, "takes one to know one." That caused me to look at the pair knowingly, "I never said that I wasn't," "damn, she got us with that one," Blue grumbled as Nyima nodded, "yip." She seems to have been getting the hang on guessing what he says lately.
I then stood up and walked over to the two as I gave Nyima the last piece of my pizza as I finished eating my fruit. Nyima looked at the piece before back at me, "you sure?" I nodded as I ruffled her hair, before looking at Blue, "don't even think about stealing her pizza. When you still have that Compy to eat," Blue did an overly exaggerated sigh as he said, "I suppose I'll behave . . . For now," I rolled my eyes at him with an exasperated sigh and a shake to my head. "Glad some things never change," I muttered under my breath. I then sat next to them as to not seem suspicious or anything. 'Cause I already knew they were already suspecting something was going on and I guess they wouldn't be wrong.
After a moment I leant back laying down on the soft grass looking up at the stars, when something popped into my head.
"Do you think I'll be up there in the stars?" Echo quietly asked causing Phoenix to look up for a second before resting her head back atop of Echo's, "you'll be the brightest one," she told the Raptor snuggling into her with a weak smile.
I snapped out of it when I heard Nyima lay down looking up at the stars as well. "The stars are always so . . . bright," I muttered before hearing Nyima add, "and they are pretty too," that caused a ghost of a smile to flash across my face. "The stars are technically both bright and pretty. Plus they're peaceful. Or at least seem that way," Blue joined into the conversation as I gave a nod in acknowledgement to what he said. "Can I ask a question?" I asked the girl as I went from look at the night sky to looking over at her, only to see that she had already been looking at me. "Sure," she agreed although I knew she wasn't going to be expecting what I was going to ask, "is there a meaning behind those two woven bracelets of yours?" I watched as her eyes widened momentarily as she also froze before she nodded, "my friend Kida, she had made them. Although after . . . something had happened, we decided to make a promise. That promise was that if either one of us passed away, the other would give the one's who died bracelet to someone we cared for deeply that wasn't family. Someone who ends up meaning a lot to us," she admitted as she moved the hand with the bracelets up to her face as she looked at them. "I take it Kida's bracelet is the reddish orange one?" I asked in curiosity getting a nod with a hum from the small girl.
