"Phoenix?" Nyima asked as she looked at me as I turned to look at her as I slowly shifted back into a human. I honestly have no idea what to say to her. Like what could I do? What could I say? Oh, wait, I can't say jack shit! She now knows my biggest secret, yet I can't think of anything other than to look at her trying to figure out what to say. The one time I could use a witty remark or anything and my brain won't work. Or better yet I could start scolding her about almost getting attacked by a pack of Dilophosaurs. Yet I chose silence, waiting to actually see her reaction to finding out that I was a Hybrid.
Although she just had to continue to surprise me.
"So . . . is this a new thing?" Nyima asked with a tilted head, that unexpected response caused a laugh to escape me. Although the way Nyima's eyes sparkled made it seem like she won the lottery or something. "Kinda," I answered her question as honest as I could, because I mean it is kinda a new thing, but also an old thing as I have technically been a Hybrid my entire life. I just haven't been able to transform into one until like four weeks ago. "I was not expecting that reaction," Blue commented which caused me to subtly nod at that.
"Does it hurt when you change forms?" Nyima questioned in pure curiosity, resulting in me raising a brow at the girl. Okay why isn't she freaking out? But her question did cause me to think for a moment. "At the very beginning it did. It literally felt like I was being ripped apart then put back together. But it doesn't really hurt now. It just kinda aches a bit," I muttered thoughtfully, watching as Nyima had a thoughtful look on her face. "It's pretty cool that you can turn into a Raptor," she commented, although I can see how it would seem cool from her point of view and it is don't get me wrong, I do enjoying being able to transform into a Raptor. Just at the same time it isn't exactly all that it's cracked up to be when you realize the story behind how I became a Hybrid really happened. "I guess, in a way it is," I nodded to show I could understand it from her point of view, but at the same time showed how I have my own reservations about it.
In reality I'm a victim and that thought is something I do not like. If Wu only made me to use me as a weapon or some attraction, he made a mistake. Why? Because imagine experimenting on a human with the DNA of an animal that is highly intelligent, not including all the other animal DNA added with it. Now that just begs the question on what other animal DNA he added with the Raptor DNA.
Nyima seemed to be lost in thought for a while as her brows furrowed for a couple moments, only for her eyes to suddenly widen in realization. I could instantly tell what she was thinking as I saw her eyes flicker to my markings. "The Indominus is the reason that I can be able to turn into a Raptor. But Wu, is the reason why I am a Hybrid," I explained to the doe eyed girl, I could see the curiosity and all the slight suspicion shimmering within her eyes. "Would it be okay, if I asked how he did it?" Nyima gently asked me, and I could tell she didn't really wanting to pry too much into the subject. "Wu experimented on me before I was even born. He had me labeled as Vr-05. Mum didn't even know as he played it out as doing monthly checkups on her pregnancy," I muttered fighting back a the growl that started to rise from the back of my throat, plus I also knew my pupils were slits. Even the mention of that mad scientist causes my blood to boil. Even the thought of him.
I watched as a variety of emotions ran through her eyes, disbelief, horror, disgust, anger and sympathy. "That's horrible and despicable. But why would he do something like that?" Nyima asked incredulously and seemingly disgusted by what Wu did. Honestly I don't really have an answer to that question other than he just wanted to see if it would work. The video file never really mentioned what he was wanting to do if the experiment worked. "Honestly, I have no clue," I responded to the young female with battle scars.
I then caught the light stench of blood and with only a couple steps I was standing before the girl as I gently cupped her face in my hands. "Are you okay? Where are you hurt?" I asked her gently as I looked into her honey brown eyes that shown like gold when the light reflected on them. I also took notice of how a light dusting of pink spread across her face. "I'm . . . I'm okay, just got nicked by a claw on the back of my leg," Nyima stammered as I released her face to look as she turned her left leg a little to show a long slice of her calf that had blood slowly trickling out of it. Just looking at it made my blood boil as a low growl made its way out of my throat. I didn't really hear whatever came out of Nyima's mouth as she was probably trying to reassure me that she was fine. So I just gently grazed my finger onto the long cut, which got a small yelp from Nyima. "Yeah, fine she says. It doesn't even hurt she says. I call lies on that," Blue grumbled, causing my eyes to flicker over to him to see he had the same chastising look he would give Echo, Charlie and Delta if they did something stupid.
I slowly stood back up as I gave Nyima a look, causing a gulp to come from her along with a nervous laugh. I just raised a brow before turning around heading back in the direction from where we came from. I can't believe she had gotten hurt and I hadn't been there to prevent it. I don't blame her for wandering around, she's a teenager who is curious, but it doesn't mean it doesn't scare me that she could have been killed before Blue and I could get to her. Then at the same time, I'm annoyed that she had gotten into and been in that situation in the first place. Except I know it wasn't her fault.
"Phoenix, I'm going to go check around the area again to make sure that there are no other predators that could hurt Nyima. Then I'll be back to scold her," Blue spoke after a while of us walking in silence. I just turned my head slightly to look at him as I gave him a single nod. Yeah, Nyima's definitely grounded and going to probably have her ear screeched, grumbled and any other noise that a Velociraptor makes when he gets back. In other words she's doomed and will not be able to escape her fate.
When we got to the old Visitors Center, I leant against a tree and watched as the female before me fidgeted nervously before clearing her throat. "I'm sorry. I know you're probably angry with me or disappointed that I had gotten myself into that mess in the first place. It was really stupid of me. I mean I had noticed something wasn't right when I noticed no herbivores were around, but my curiosity got the better of me--" I cut the girls nervous rambling off by grabbing her wrist and pulling her into my chest as I held her. "Stop talking," is all I tell her as I rest my head on the top of hers as she let out a shaky breath, I could tell the whole ordeal had scared her a bit. This was also my way of showing that I wasn't angry with her or disappointed, it's just my way of dealing with things.
I stayed holding her protectively for a while before I spoke, not moving my head from the top of hers. "I'm not angry or disappointed in you. I'm angry with myself that you got hurt and I wasn't there to protect you," I gently started to rub soothing circles onto her back. "But it's not your fault. I'm the one who--" Nyima tried to say although muffled by her head being buried against my chest. "Don't even try to blame yourself," I growled gently at her with a bit of warning. I wasn't trying to sound hostile in anyway. "But it is," she of course argued back causing me to feel a little exasperated. She's just as bad as me, which caused me to tighten my hold on her slightly. "If it's anyone's fault, we'll blame the Dilophosaurs," I stated as I pulled back slightly as I looked down into her golden honey brown eyes. "Deal," she agreed to putting the blame on the Dilophosaurs.
"Also I know I'm more than likely grounded, but how screwed am I exactly?" Nyima's curious question caused me to suppress my chuckle of amusement for now. "Let's just say you're most definitely grounded in Blue's books. Plus he plans to give you a lecture when he returns," I mused not even trying to hide my amusement as Nyima groaned nodding her head. That caused me to let her snuggled back into me again as I let a chuckle out. Especially when she let out a small yawn. Adorable. Plus, I don't blame her for being a little tired considering her nightmare last night that had Kida involved, then the near death experience and then the overload of information of my secret. Yeah, I'd probably be mentally exhausted too.
Nyima was now nestled into my side having a nap after I had patched the laceration on her leg up. She looked peaceful at least as she slept. Blue then showed up a few minutes later joining Nyima and I in the nest as he curled protectively around the two of us. "How long has she been asleep for?" Blue gently asked as he gave the side of my head a nuzzle. "For about twenty minutes," I informed him as he nodded. "Is she okay?" Blue asked cautiously as he gave a gentle nuzzle to the top of Nyima's head. "She will be. The experience with the Dilophosaurs just shook her up a bit," I reassured him as he let out a sigh. "I'll give her a lecture later," Blue commented causing me to chuckle gently. He then rested his head on top of mine as he let out a gentle purr.
I could get used to this especially now that I don't have to hide the fact that I'm a Hybrid to Nyima.
